Sounds like an attempt to capitalize to me, as these were unrelated events.

You owe your way of life to random soldiers.

Kobe was an entertainer.

Go ahead and explain how Kobe’s life had a greater impact or motr meaning than this random dead soldier.

Such a fricking weird commercial.

No, not even close, most people don't really care all that much but most of them don't say anything about it because they have common sense and some other people just fake being sad with celebrities.

is it a tragedy? absolutely.

Unpopular opinion, I don't think it is, I think we will move on to the next thing soon.

I’ll play devil’s advocate here. People only impact us so much as they can affect us, and they can only affect us as much as we know about them. Kobe Bryant was well known, people that watched basketball saw him play and apparently he was a generational talent. I assume he made a lot of money and hopefully did a bunch of charity work that positively affected some lives outside of just those who enjoyed watching him play. I’m guessing he inspired some young people to follow their dreams or something like that too.

Sargent Lance Halfstaff from Podunk, Bamasippi might have served his country bravely and died saving his fellow soldiers and deserves the admiration of many for that sacrifice, and certainly it greatly impacted those he grew up with and served with...but the amount of people that were touched and impacted by his loss pale in comparison, unfortunately. It’s apples and oranges.

Some are remembered by many, but will be forgotten by most by the next news cycle. Let them have their time to grieve or whatever.

Those who were touched more deeply by a personal passing will he the ones that put flowers on his grave when all the rest have forgotten. They’ll be the ones that shed tears on a stone decades after they are gone.

No one will be weeping over Kobe’s grave 20 years from now except his direct family,
Just like the soldier.

Can't have this kind of logic here.

For those that don’t know, Kobe was in a weird Mr Peanut commercial where an elephant is chasing his daughter who’s dressed as a peanut because he wants to eat her.

Then recently Mr Peanut’s death is announced. Also weird. Then Kobe dies.

More weird Peanut commercials were filmed and ready for air. Glad they stopped the weirdness.

Entirely possible that Planters Marketing realized the entire ad campaign was an awful mistake and then Kobe died. So some executives said “Oh good, here is an excuse to cancel this mess and keep our jobs.”

Take away Kobe's money and he is just another squirrel trying to get a nut. Having money is what allowed Kobe to touch so many lives.

Not saying he was not a good man but there are millions of good men that would touch just as many lives if they had a 600 million dollar net worth.

Kobe still actually did it. Most people are not capable of that.

Sooooo, because Kobe died, no one else is allowed to die now? Not even a fictional character?

What's real sad is that his family lost a son, husband and a dad. Young black men lost a good role model.

And I’d counter that his talent is what allowed him to make money. Take away Joe Burrow’s talent and he’s just another forgettable transfer instead of a once in a Lifetime QB who has used that talent to bring good and joy to many people, and that talent is going to allow him to make a lot of money, which I have no doubt he will use to bring good.

If you have talent and squander it what’s the point? And if it brings you fame and fortune and allows you to influence more people for good, then bravo.

And a granddaughter, child and sister.

That's heartbreaking.

As is the loss of the other 7 people on board the helicopter.

I remember years and years ago Seth MacFarlane had three shows on Fox, Family Guy, and two other ones. The big season finale that he was planning was that a hurricane was going to rip through all three of the fictional towns on those shows, and it was going to be sort of like a three-way crossover. But earlier that week, a tornado pretty much crushed and flattened Tuscaloosa and the surrounding areas, so Fox decided to pull the season finale of those shows. I think they ended up airing them as the season premiere of the next season in the fall

Unless he died in a helicopter crash in the mountains, this is a bit ridiculous.

Yep. It's called virtue signalling, and it's pathetic.
