Hope someone can shed some light on this.

We are putting up our home for sale and our realtor recommended painting the cabinets white to modernize them as well as put on door handles etc. Thought it was a good idea after seeing some homes in the area sell quickly that sold with white cabinets.

My question is this. The baseboards and crown mouldings in our kitchen is an off-white so is it best to match the kitchen cabinet color to that off-white color or can/should I paint it a different white?

Also should I go with a semi-gloss or satin sheen for these kitchen cabinets?

Thanks for any help guys!

Same color cabinets as the trim and baseboards.
Same finish as well.

What wood is your cabinets? Dark stain or light?

I hate the painted cabinet trend right now.

Do not paint wood. That looks tacky and is a pain if someone wants to take it back to natural wood. Like others have said, it should be fine if the cabinets and base boards match.

Definitely match the whites. And HELL NO don't paint it with a flat paint. It's kitchen cabinets. They get dirty. U want something that's easy to clean. You can usually just wipe a semi-gloss with a wet rag. I've painted a shite ton. I go semi-gloss enamel on all cabs/baseboards/doors & eggshell latex on walls

Do you have to sand the cabinets down before painting?

I have a question. Why did you quit capitalizing after "Color" and before "question"?

If you use water-based paint, go with gloss.

Not as tacky as if the cabinets are the 80's style oak grain and your trying to give your kitchen an update in 2015.

It will be a long time before that trends comes back if ever. Think wood paneling.

for cabinets, it needs to have enamel, which is almost always at least semi gloss

Prime. Paint cabinets and baseboards/casing/etc. Use semigloss or high gloss. Black or bronze hardware seems to be the hot thing right now.
