They were informed that the family neglected to select the rental insurance option so they will not be refunded

Sounds like they should have done that then.

the right thing to do for them to cut this family some slack but that it what the trip insurance is for.

The positive publicity they would have received far outweighs the little bit of money they are keeping.

well it clearly did drain his bank account, that is why he's trying to free up the cash. Its ridiculous, insurance is there for any unexpected event that may arise whether it be a death, loss of a job, a flood or whatever. These people were clearly immune to any worries of a potential hiccup and it happened and now its the rental agencies fault?

without knowing their situation, if they dont backfill the reservation with something comparable - the answer is obvious.

i will say, while technically within their rights to keep the deposit --- i generally would refund at least part (if not all) for any natural disaster, documented hospital stay, death in the immediate family etc..... but would be strict on the wishy washy reasons to cancel.

That fcking rental company isn't losing a damn penny by refunding the whole rental. They can turn around and rent it for that time period easily.

Labor day weekend is no where near a "busy weekend", more like 80% at best. Its a Monday Holiday and the kids are in school. Most properties rent 7 days at a time, so a 3 day weekend is not easy to rebook at all last minute.

There was an INSURANCE OPTION, and they denied the insurance.

So if there was a death in the family should they be able to cancel? What about if the husband was laid off? There is insurance for a reason.

and they aren't...BUT, they can do themselves a world of good with some fine publicity if they do...and they will have probably earned a repeat customer...Repeat customers are GOLD in that business.

For all those who are falling back on the 'trip insurance' line....Where do you stand on the flood insurance????

So, the rental company (which probably represents the owners) should take it upon themselves to make a decision that should be reserved for the owners> Talk about a way to lose a listing.

If I was the rental company, I would rather take a few thousand hit than get gang raped on social media.

Where do you stand? It's sounding like you're getting close to wanting something for nothing.

Stupid to plan a vacation when you can't afford it...I think its more likely they have money but think they shouldn't go now b/c of the flood and what better way to gain sympathy than to imply you're broke

This is the Facebook post
quote:

My mom booked a condo in fort Walton a week ago for Labor Day (paid in full) weekend and did not get the travel insurance. We called today and explained their situation and their reply was you should have purchased the insurance. After taking the phone from my mom and explaining to them that my parents have lost everything they own they still would not return my parents money. I had them ask the owner Kim Lang and she said the same. When I asked them if they knew what was happening here in Louisiana she replied "we are aware and that's why we recommend insurance". I told her I would be posting on social media and we would NEVER rent from them again (we have rented from them before) The only way my parents will get any money back is if someone else books those same dates in that condo so praying that will happen. Shame on you Kim Lang Vacation Properties and if anyone has time please post a review on there Facebook page on how you feel about this. I just couldn't believe it, she said they have a financial responsibility to the owners and I understand that but these are EXTREME circumstances and I just don't get how someone can be that cruel.
Sounds like the parents will get the money back if someone else books the room.

Maybe the rental company can help them sublease it. Then it truly is no skin off of their back.

if they are unwilling to lose money, it seems obvious to atleast try to refill the booking quickly and if it need to be at a discounted rate then charge the gap as a cancel fee.

a firm "no we will not do anything to help" is going to catch you some hell.

edit: i see they did offer that. honestly, thats pretty fair for a middle ground. i dont like seeing the people lose the cash, but not going to trash someones livelihood in this situation either.

if you've lost everything you probably want every dollar you have available to you, so it'd probably be best if you can get out of paying 2k on a trip you can't take, you should try. Debate them not getting the insurance sure, but your point was retarded

The rental company probably should have quietly made an exception here. I hope that they were given ample opportunity to do so before people made them famous. If not, these do gooder "we're so angry!" morons have only made it worse for all sides.

I don't fault the rental company, just saying that if it were my company we wouldn't hold firm in this instance.

Its horrible what happened to said family, but if you pay in full for a vacation it better not be every last dollar you have, which apparently it was for these guys trying to cancel a $2k or less trip to free up money. Do you not see the absurdity of this family and their whining? They have no emergency fund or anything and are paying in full for a vacation soon?

You are such an insufferable cocksucker with a anything regarding money. Congrats on having a successful uncle leave you his established businesses. You are a worthless piece of shite that won the gene pool lottery.
