My friend told me the other day his ex was mad because he was letting his son ride his bike alone in the neighborhood.
Back in the day my friends and I were riding miles and miles to Pack n Paddle to go scope out the new bikes. I don't remember anything bad happening. If anything it promoted independence and it was a healthy activity.

No children’s menus to color?

Don't take a 5 year old to a nice restaurant. Problem solved.

I remember when my parents bought a car in the 80’s and it took for whatever seemed to be hours.
I kept asking if we could leave.
Kids today are much the same, we just look at it differently as adults now.
And I’m not opposed to yelling at clouds or getting off my lawn.

Yes, but adults as well. It's a messed up generation

Self entertainment doesn't happen until the age of 12.

News flash: 30 years ago kids couldn’t entertain themselves in a nice restaurant.

Kids nowadays don’t get the experience of being bored with their mouth shut in a church pew for a few hours every week.
Take or leave the preaching, sitting there drawing on the bulletin every Sunday was a life lesson in itself.
Now kids don’t go or have some version of daycare disguised as Sunday School.

You're so clueless. And before you quote your mama about how great of a kid you were at 5, every kid is different and every kid has a breakdown.
It'll stop around 8-10 yrs old when they can process "be good now and you'll get a reward later or an arse whipping if you keep this bullshite up."
I have 4 kids. 2 would do this at 4 or
5yrs, 2 wouldn't.

We always behaved in public because our parents would beat the shite out of us if we didn't

I think Bender had some sage advice for this very predicament: LINK

We don't own a TV or gaming system, and my kids are always thinking up games and entertaining themselves. If we go out, they are either talking with each other or whatever adults will pay attention to them.
No TV/video games was my wife's idea and she was right. Night and day difference when we got rid of them.

I had boredom all the time, too. I whined like a little a-hole, too, though.

This practice is so underrated. If you grow up doing that every single week, that means you’ve basically practiced mediation for that long. I would bet everything I have that kids who had that experience have a leg up emotionally and intellectually on those who didn’t.

This is definitely true, but I think it's true with adults now as well. Look around when you're out, everyone on phones because they can't just sit.
What is the youngest age nowadays that a kid gets an iPad? iphone?

My wife tells my kids all the time that boredom is good for them and their brain. She’s pretty smart so I believe her
