I don’t get her hardon for having them expelled. Is she just trying to tie the school into this because they’re a bigger target? Is she just trying to inconvenience them as much as possible?

This is why the world is so crazy today. The punishment lies somewhere between “it’s nothing” and “let’s expel them”.
Regardless of what people think, these schools have behavioral standards outside of campus. Much like most jobs.

The punishment stuff is overkill, especially considering who was engaging in the faux pas.
The issue is that the "hide our head in the sand" response pretending nothing bad happened creates the perfect scenario where that overreaction becomes palatable.
If non-leftists were honest about the pathology, we wouldn't cede the ground to leftists to decide what the punishment is, because the non-leftist response is "nothing bad happened". Normal people think that's retarded, so their only option is to give power to the people being honest about the behavior. Then you just create an open season for insane leftists to run amuck and do damage.
Be honest about the pathology.
Address the pathology.
Address the influence proliferating the pathology.
Forgive the yutes who are only pawns, assuming they recognize the pathology and don't continue to engage in it.

Kids do stupid things. Regardless of their intent, random lady trying to get them expelled is insane. I hope the school's principal or president pushes back incredibly hard.
They don't deserve their entire life taken away; it's not driving drunk or shooting up a concert.
Hopefully someone fully investigates her past and can do the same to her. Cant' she just mind her own business and move on with her own pathetic life?

They shouldn't be thrown in jail, but their gestures were in extremely bad taste.
Their parents should deal with them appropriately. One of the main problems with society today is that everyone thinks they are sitting behind a computer screen when they are in public. Actions come with consequences.
