Child abusers get caught when they bring their kids to the ER. If your child has cavities as a 5 year old, I’m sorry- you’re a mediocre parent at best.

ruzil is actually a dentist, so I wouldn't just dismiss his opinion here.

The two mom’s that left probably needed to NOT be back there with their kids the most.

I’m an Oral Surgeon. No way in hell I’m letting parents or spouses back in the treatment room during a procedure.

as someone who shares a bed with dentist, this is pretty accurate. it goes w/out saying that all kids are different. generally, dental anxiety is learned from parents and or siblings.

You can tell a lot about who is raising their kids right by their behavior in a dental chair

And it's obviously not black and white, plenty of grey area

I would asked to see the actual cavity. I had 2 dentist tell me my kid needed fillings. I didnt see any and would to another dentist that didnt see any. They're shady
lmao no dentist is choosing fillings on a toddler as an easy buck. Far easier ways if you have bad motives.

Do any of us who are not dentists know what the dentist is doing and if it’s proper??

I don’t blame you. I was very surprised when they told me I could stay after he was given versed and gas. He cracked me up throughout the surgery though and we were dying when my son hummed the star warms theme song during the entire surgery.

I imagine this has nothing to do with malpractice and everything to do with concerns about kiddie diddling. I would have no idea about anything but a blatant breach of the standard of care but could "probably" pick out any untoward behavior.

For a checkup, no. For a procedure, yes.

Is needing two fillings at 5 years old normal?

From my experience only about 20% of the population flosses regularly so yes.

Use your brain here. Distinguish between two separate situations.

It may be normal but I’ve definitely heard weird stories (one in a local parent group). I love that our kids’ dentist expects you to come back. If it makes you feel weird, call around pediatric dentists or ask if parents typically come back.

It’s a strange adult and your child. Why not go back? If nothing more, your kid might be treated with a bit more respect.

ETA
I get why any normal dentist would also prefer not to have parents, bc some kids are night and day different with/without parents and that could make treatment more difficult.

This sounds like a load of bull shite. Gatorade rotting baby teeth? Crowning baby teeth?

She use to send her kid to bed with a sippy cup of Gatorade, his entire mouth needed to be crowned because of tooth decay..

Unrelated story...

Mom shocked to see mouth full of silver.

quote:

Chaet claimed that although it looks bizarre, all of those caps were necessary to fill Savannah's cavities and to save other teeth that were probably deteriorating.

This is a child who is obviously very high risk for decay, Chaet said.

He went on to say that some dentists probably would have gone a step further by putting on white veneers to cover a lot of those silver caps even if the patient couldn't afford it. Chaet said a lot of dentists would have done it free of charge because children are sensitive about how they feel and look.
