My 5 year old daughter had a procedure this morning (she needed two fillings)… the dentist only allows parents in the back with children for cleanings and check up not actual dental procedures… is this normal???… my daughter went back with no problem… but two moms left and said they’ll find another dentist… what say the OT… should I have been back there??

Yes

I'm sure the dentist was happy to see them leave

Kids are worse when they think the parent can save them.

Weird. My wife (no pics) was allowed back with my kid for the same procedure. Bonus, the dentist has a big screen mounted on the ceiling and the kid can pick what they want to watch before the dentist starts.

Our pediatric dentist has parent chairs next to all patient chairs. I’ve never heard of a parent not being allowed to be with the child for any procedure. I was even in the room when my son had oral surgery. The surgeon said it was for their liability purposes and to make the patients more comfortable.

Normal. you don't have to hold your kid's hand for everything.

The kids typically do better without their parents huddling over them.

Not really...
Unusual that a 5 y/o has cavities to begin with. Weird putting fillings in baby teeth.
However, I did know a girl who constantly gave her kid Gatorade and his baby teeth needed to be crowned because they were already rotten from the Gatorade.

Same with my kids' dentist.

My kids pediatric dentist never asked to treat without me present. The treatment/assessment room was a cute room with a parent’s chair next to the one the kids lay on. I don’t think I’d send my toddler or young kid into a private room with a dentist and an assistant only. Too many freaks out there.

Normal. you don't have to hold your kid's hand for everything.

My kids' dentist allows us back for procedures (at least for fillings, no experience with anything more complicated). Not sure it'd be a dealbreaker if he didn't, but I like being able to.

Why would a parent need to be there? All they will do is play into a childs anxiety. Let the professionals do their freaking job.

This sounds like a load of bullshite. Gatorade rotting baby teeth? Crowning baby teeth?

Sometimes you hit Roger levels of stupid. You shouldn't do that.

I think it is an office to office type thing.
If you want to be back there find a dentist that allows it, if you don't stick with where you are.
Kids are more likely to freak out if mommy or daddy are close by.
