not even sure at this point, we were just happy to pinpoint the problem

however, our follow up is coming up real soon, so we'll find out long term solutions/answers i would hope.

So literally the first response in this thread identified the problem.

Yep. We have one around the same age as yours and did allergy tests. Made diet changes and it helps.

Consistent application of moisturizers does too. We put on Cerave and Aquaphor several times a day.

I had it severely bad a few years ago and went to the dr several times to find the right fix. It ended up being a topical steroid that helped. I’ll look up the name for you soon and repost. Don’t let that baby suffer with ointments. They didn’t do shite for me.

Triamcinolone

Without a doubt the best remedy, period. I developed eczema a few years ago and spent a lot of time at 3 different dermatologists and nothing they prescribed worked long term. I bought this on a whim along with a bunch of other over the counter things to try and solve the problem myself and this hydrocortisone lotion worked immediately and after using for a couple of weeks I haven't had any eczema for a few months now.

My 8 month old nephew developed the tell tale rash on his forehead and cheeks and I had my sister try this stuff and it also worked in the first 2 days to virtually eliminate the eczema.

Give it a shot and report back!

Egg, sorry I am just now seeing this, went through this with my oldest two.

More than likely they will grow out of the food allergies other than any types of nuts, shell fish, and possibly some of the fruits they may be allergic too.

You need to be very diligent about the nuts, the reactions get worse over time and to be safe I would not touch him until you shower and brush your teeth after eating shell fish.

Eventually it does get better. But more than likely he will be allergic to grasses if he is allergic to dust mites and other things like that. Allergies shots as they get older helps. As does rubbing the moisturizer on every night after a bath/shower.

My oldest has not grown out of anything and takes weekly shots and is still allergic to nuts and shellfish. Shots have helped is allergies alot but bring their own issues with the reactions and swelling from them.

My middle boy is now only allergic to shellfish and all nuts, but he has no eczema as his other allergies cleared.

We still have to carry benadryl and epipens with us everywhere. My kids are deathly allergic to the nuts and shellfish but are only allergic to the specific proteins in the foods so they can be around it, just not ingest. Oldest had eaten shellfish many times when he had his first reaction to boiled shrimp where he looked like will Smith in hitch. Scary seeing a 4 year old look like that. Middle boy had his at 1 when I have him peanut butter, he immediately broke out in hives bad. I had to make hi. Throw it up and force benadryl down him, now we carry the EpiPen. We start a lifelong treatment next month at Texas children's to allow them to one day eat these foods or at the least not be deathly allergic.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned, kids with eczema will develop asthma about 90-95% of the time. So be prepared for daily breathing treatments prolly starting around 1. They suck at first but once they get used to them, it is not bad, expensive as shite though.

My middle one only has to take singular, oldest has singular and xzyal daily. Oldest had to do the breathing treatments until 5 daily, now only has to do them if he has trouble. Both are able to play sports and have no exercise induced asthma.

Lmk if you need more info or recommendations on specialist been to them all over LA and Tx.

TLDR
Monitor it closely especially the nuts and get them to a food allergy specialist asap.

Was coming here to post this. Cortisone 10 for exuma was the best for my little one. She went to dermatologist and tried everything. Nothing worked like this.

We've had to battle eczema with both of our boys. It seems like the heat inflames it. we have gotten some meds and otc stuff that helps alot as long as we use it.

My son had it terribly. The only thing that helped was going to see an allergist — Dr McCormick. Pediatrician and dermatologist didn’t help. Also, do you have any pets? My son was allergic to dogs and we didn’t know it until Dr McCormick tested him. Made a huge difference once we knew this.

If your child has eczema at that age, it is generally an allergy to something they are ingesting either from mothers diet if breastfed or from their own.

Same issue with our 1 month old. Eczema and fussy all the time. Pediatrician suggested cutting dairy from my wife’s diet and she was a new baby a week later.

Damn.

Glad he's better. Would switching to formula just be easier? Our guy switched to formula around 7 months. It was tough on the wife to stop feeding him, but a relief at the same time.

ETA:

Also, I was an allergy shot 3 times a week kid and grew out of everything besides pollen allergies by the time I was 10/11. I was mildly allergic to what seemed like everything and still ate nuts, oranges, etc. and played with animals I was apparently allergic to.

Also, stuff like dust everyone is going to be allergic to with their tests.

He'll be fine.

My oldest had it bad. Only cream that worked was a prescription cortisone cream. We also cut perfumes out as much as we could. Switched laundry detergent to the same ecos, shampoo to various non perfuming things - aveeno with oatmeal baby wash, California baby we’re two that had better results. She’s now 13. Has an occasional flare up but that’s now the exception and not the norm.
