A gator doesn't have to be all that big to take a dog in the water. In a gator's domain, a dog doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning that fight.
Even if on land, if a gator gets hold of any dog, there's not much a dog can do to the gator to make it turn loose if that gator is intent on having it for lunch.
And I strongly agree with the poster who said the state needs to open season on gators. They are being found in places now that they were not seen in years ago---------and in big numbers too.

We've had stories, usually out of Florida, for over a decade, of someone in the Villages getting their cock-a-POS dog getting snatched by a gator, and people still let their animals near the water?
The owners need to get eaten along with the dog.

I guess it’s because we haven’t had that happen here (that I know of). I’d die trying to save my dog. Wonder how many folks let their dogs get near Bayou St John or City Park, etc. water. I can’t imagine how horrific it was for that owner. Poor Brownie.

It's traumatic as hell, I'm sure, and I don't wish it on anyone. My hood has gators (usually one or two per lake, usually very shy,) but only a stone cold idiot would let any dog, or even child, wander within 3-4 feet of the water. I'm in Houston, not even LA or FL, and wouldn't even let my ex-wife's dog that I dislike that close to the water.

Signs around that area saying beware of gators. She says people feed the gators and admits to knowing this yet allows her dog to hang out by the water where she knows gators have been at. Dog gets eaten. Shes an idiot.
I ride by that area all the time. That gator is never on the shoreline. Always in the middle of that body of water by the pumping station. Easily preventable if she wasn’t such a dumbass.
