Isn't that for the courts to decide? Did you read the article?

It wasn't "ruled a homicide". This is the sort of bullshite that Snowballs these situations out of hand.

The corners report said his injuries are constant with those seen in homicides. No judge or jury weighed evidence and then ruled this a homicide.

died of compressional asphyxia and his manner of death was a homicide, according to Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich.

No No No. Homicide just means death caused by the actions of another. It can be Justifiable Homicide. Murder is the unlawful killing of another. Negligent Homicide is death caused by the criminal negligence of another.

Kneeling on the neck. Police are told not to do it in the Academy but it is the best way to subdue someone. If you pin someone’s head to the ground there really isn’t a way for them to fight effectively.

Yeah, I guess that could happen too. Just a bad story all around. Obviously the suspect shouldn't resist arrest, but damn.

I’d usually make some half assed joke, but this is truly awful. Multiple lives will be forever ruined because of this incident.

Or it's possible to realize that he's a criminal who fled and also might've been killed as a result of excessive force.

None of us knows until more info comes out.

4 cops, one man. If he's resisting arrest, you tackle him and put him in cuffs. If 4 of JPSO's finest can't do that... maybe we need to reevaluate the department.

It's ok to support the blue line and also admit when a mistake was made. This was a mistake.

I can tell you've never worked ONE day as a peace officer. Come join in chasing a few hopped up criminals fleeing felony arrest and see how many guys it takes to detain them. Desperate people on different drugs put up one hell of a fight.

Given the fact there are no body cameras and there were four officers involved, I'm incredibly skeptical anything will come out to indict the officers. The only person that could say otherwise is dead.

A homicide just means the cops caused the death. It doesn't necessarily mean it was murder just like it doesn't mean it's justified.

The court system and investigation will determine that.

Did you read the coroner report? You don't need to guess. He had injuries concurrent with external pressure placed on his neck.

I.e., he was placed in a choke hold.

I have no problem with police putting fleeing and resisting drug dealers in choke holds to cuff them.

How do you know all 4 got there at the same time? How do you know they didn't tackle him?

How do you know this was a mistake? You've seen all the evidence? A line on a corners report about possible soft tissue damage possibly consistent with a choke hold is enough for you to declare this whole thing a mistake by police?

The word “homicide” has such negative connotations. Why do they use it when a violent suspect accidentally passed away?

No dude. That poster knows all you have to do is tackle a guy and there's never any injuries or problems.

Coroner's medical definition of homicide is when a person is responsible for the death of another.

Especially when they're being choked to death.

Again, the comments on this are just like Saints Talk and the Rant after football games. Everyone is an expert and could have performed better than the LSU QB or Brees. It is really futile arguing over this b/c "choking" doesn't always look like a UFC fight where it is obvious.

His actions, while illegal, don't deserve death

Generally, no, his actions in this scenario don't warrant his death. But that's of course not what I was saying. I was saying that it looks like he put himself in a highly volatile situation where he was accidentally killed with little to no culpability on the officers' parts. It has nothing to do with "deserve" based on his recent bad acts; it has everything to do with him causing what ultimately happened, assuming no culapbility or bad faith on the officers' parts.

if this ends up with a cop being fired...possibly found guilty, there won't be any outrage.

Nor should there be. Presumably, any such officer was guilty, and they'd get their punishment.

don't know if it has been mentioned, but what if the suspect was swallowing the evidence(drugs) when he was subdued by the pursuing officers...hence for the soft tissue damage from choking

What I said is 100% factual. If you're being choked to death, even accidentally, you're going to put up one hell of a fight. That's human nature.

Which isn't safe to do at this point. All we know is that he's dead and the cops were the reason why. We don't know if the cops were justified or not.

Right. I meant in contrast with stories like trayvon and Alton and Mike brown. It was so clear that they were justified, but protests were everywhere. This one is the one that might fit the "cops kill black people" narrative, but it'll be forgotten soon.
