Might not matter to you or me, but all it takes is one juror to be influenced by that.
One or two jurors can lead to a mistrial but, at some point, the state will stop prosecuting the case.

Sure, but we don't know when that is. I believe either someone from O'Keefe's family or the prosecution has said that they will keep going until until they get a resolution.

Sure, they say that now. But trials aren’t cheap.

Good ol taxpayers money…
What do yall think a defense like this cost? Ballpark? $500k?

For both trials? Not even close.
Lucky for her, she has strong public support so there won’t be a lack of attorneys or money willing to support her.

Just think about how much in police presence the Commonwealth is paying every day. Cordoned off areas, fencing, etc. Adds up in a hurry.
My prediction, if this goes to mistrial or HJ, they won't retry her.

For the defense? Way more. Karen Read has worked out some sort of deal with her defense team, so they aren't currently charging her. If they were billing her standard hourly rates, she'd be in the hole millions of dollars. But they still have to pay for witnesses, etc. For example, the defense had a $24k bill just for the two ARCCA witnesses in the 1st trial. She's using donations to cover those expenses.

Yep. And even if they do try, it will end the same way again. The repeated attempt to prosecute just makes it look even more suspicious.

KR being a crazy stalker doesn't mean she hit and killed John with the car.
True, but it sure does make her a better scapegoat.

YouTube
This guy has been making some videos where he breaks taillights and shows the results.
He posted a video earlier today that makes a very good case to show the taillight was broken in the sally port.
The inside of the housing did not look like the rest of the vehicles exterior. If it was broken at 12:30am in front of 34 Fairview it should be dirty from road grim.

what are the chances they would win a civil suit against her?

Do you think that's why she did the documentary...to be able to afford all the expenses of her defense?

Part of the reason, yes. At least that’s my opinion.

I don't know... OJ lost his civil suit after being criminally acquitted. Seems the family is likely to try to sue her over anything after the trials. I think they've said something to the effect already.
Read to face wrongful death lawsuit
After Read's second murder trial concludes, she will have to face a civil suit brought by O'Keefe's estate and its representative, his brother. Read's attorneys filed motioned to stay the civil case until the criminal case is resolved.

I mean I suppose she could be found guilty in a civil case. I know the burden is lower in civil cases. I guess it would probably depend if they just need majority or unanimous. I personally don’t think convicted of anything as the evidence doesn’t prove that he was hit by a car.

she's definitely a narcissist. you can tell that in the documentary. she has a lack of empathy and is focused on herself. A psychologist pointed out that her saying, "i hit him, I hit him" is evidence that she is a narcissist. The text messages read today clearly reveal she thinks mostly of herself. It's damaging that she cites the kids he adopted (his sister and brother in law both died within a year of each other) as the reason for a chasm in their relationship She's not an endearing defendant, but that doesn't make her a killer. It'll be interesting this time around if the defense admits that she may be a scorned, jealous, insecure person but there's no evidence of a collision.

The text messages made her sound high maintenance and exhausting to be around. Relationships should not be that hard. I think she’s an a-hole, but I don’t think she purposely did anything to hurt him. It’s completely ridiculous that the commonwealth has taken it this far.

I think this is a little bit of a stretch
I thought of two possible reasons to be that early. Maybe each shift goes in early in case anyone on the current shift needs to leave early, but when people do that its not usually two hours, its usually an hour.. But its possible.
And maybe the weather that night played a factor? Maybe more accidents so they go in early to give the current shift help.
The best way to get away with something is to have as few people as possible to know about it. I think whatever was going on, there might have been 2 or 3 people who knew exactly what happened.
