You can call it fear, negativity or a scared outlook. I don’t deny. You may be more versed or more read in the politics and revenue/costs of St.G than I am even though you don’t live here.

I pay $25,000 per child in private school tuition to live in St.G now. I presume that my closest neighbors are as concentrated in wealth as we are. I presume most of us prefer our taxes to go towards the experiment of St.G school system instead of EBRPSS for the hope of a better future. Why not? What can be worse than status quo?

I’m just saying I think taxes will increase in St.G. If so, my kids will be out of private school and I have a cost/benefit choice to move or not if taxes increase. Obviously, if we paid this much in tuition, we can afford our taxes and potential tax increases and we can decide whether we want to pay that for the utopia that is St. George. Personally I feel like I’m qualified to make that decision about whether a St. George independent school district is going to make my gated community quality of life a lot better in 10 years when the benefits materialize hopefully. No one‘s really convinced me though.

Why? Do you have any proof of this just to sustain StG? Just to sustain isn’t much based on the current district’s conditions and not wanting to invest much in StG area likely since the SE Baton Rouge school district was pushed before the city of StG was even an idea.

I don't even know what you are asking, but I'm asking for proof that creating a whole new government with leadership plus fire, police, maintenance PLUS a whole new school system isn't going to be more costly than what I'm paying for now. I just want to know how much more can anyone guess that I am on the hook for? and no one knows because this is an experiment. We are all on a hope and prayer that StG can isolate itself from the ruins of EBRP at the cost of whatever to separate itself from that situation. Well, I just don't know if I'm permanently enough here to be down for that question mark of a situation. StG isn't really geographically far enough removed from EBRP to justify an unquantifiable amount of tax increase to vote for this experiment.

For the record I’m in favor of the new school district as someone who lives in BR proper. There is nothing to lose. As things stand my kids will go to private school because the EBRSS is terrible. Let St. George give it a go. If it fails, nothing changes for me. But if it succeeds, I’ll move to St. George.

why don't you just move to Prairieville or St. Francisville now? They have verifiable successful school districts?

I'm just not wanting higher taxes for the experiment of St.G unless I have confidence in the leadership and budget. I hope to have more of an informed decision before I vote but if it is a hope for change situation and not a good quantifiable plan, I'm not convinced yet.

Haha
They have 3 former school board presidents volunteering to help get this through.

haha. former school board presidents from where? why should i care? why should I have confidence in their leadership? I'm just telling you that people from all over the state are asking me if they should vote for this amendment. Saying haha doesn't really explain what's guaranteed other than higher taxes for St.G residents and better schools in about 10 years or so.

You do understand that you are paying taxes now. A lot of taxes that go into a failing school system. You pay those taxes and send your kids to a private school because you know the system is failing.

Convince me that we really need a set of charter schools run by St.G.

Rather a set of charter schools run by EBR like we have now?

I do understand what I'm paying in taxes now and for no benefit because of the school tuition I pay, but the amount of taxes it will take to sustain St.G will understandably be greater than what I'm paying now. The question is do I want to pay higher taxes for a school system for which I do not benefit? I mean I guess my safety will be better with better schools, but how much more do I want to pay for that over what I have now if I don't have kids going to school? it is for me to decide if I want to move after my kid graduates to a district with taxes which won't be so high. I do not have confidence that the St.G leadership knows exactly how much it will cost to improve it's schools and my surroundings. I'm thinking taxes will greatly increase.
quote:

Let me clue you in. EBRSS will lose 60 million a year if it passes. That’s why they don’t want it to pass.

where can I find quantifiable proof to back up your assertion? Where is this verifiable?
are you thinking that the St. George Schools are going to be better than private schools overnight? How long before people feel confident enough to opt out of private schools and send their kids to public schools? My guess is a long time.

It's not like Woodlawn will instantly become as good as Dutchtown and the new Prairieville HS enough to cause parents to quit going to SJA, St. Michaels, Episcopal, Parkview and Dunham. Seriously, how long before the level of confidence is raised to that level?
No one outside of Baton Rouge knows enough about the situation to know how to vote on this amendment. So, does that mean they will likely vote yes or vote no for the new school district, not having a clue?

I live in St. George and won't benefit from improved schools as my child will graduate from private school in 4 years. I also don't think the leaders of St. George had a clue as to how much it will cost to run a city without raising taxes a ton let alone an independent school district....the pensions, the school buildings, etc. I'm not really into paying for that when I won't benefit with the exception of a "safer' city than EBRP because of segregation, but do I trust that the St.G leaders can provide that for me? I'm skeptical.

Convince me that we really need a set of charter schools run by St.G.

our postal worker abandoned her truck in front of my house. A few days later, my neighbors asked if I was friends with the mail lady and was she staying with me because it's unusual to have a truck abandoned at your house. We had to call the US post office and leave a message with several people before someone local finally called me that they were going to tow the truck. They had no idea it was missing until we reported it.
Are you trying to debate someone if they say red-lining or discrimination had something to do with it?

For years - not a couple years, for over 6 years EVERY Friday and Saturday late night at 2AM for about 15-20 minutes you can hear the motors revving and some type of racing taking place. I live (as the crow fly) 6 miles from Top golf/conns parking lots.

Driving on I-10 this weekend and 4 Chargers driving in a pack. Going very slow to create room to floor it. They are dangerous when doing this crap. I've trying to avoid sharing any road with this stupidity.

----------------------------
I've been caught up in chargers racing in daylight from 1-12 o'neal area to down airline where I exited for safety and they were going that way too. There were about 20 of them. I was so scared I almost wrecked. Thank goodness children weren't in the car with me. I hear them race between prairieville and siegen on 1-10 at night. Wish someone would crack down on the charger situation
24 hours give or take with no place to stay overnight in Atlanta Airport. Duck Dynasty family was in same situation so they provided entertainment. Made it memorable but it was certainly miserable.
Origin hotel downtown has got to be economical. have no idea what their rooms look like, but I've been there on LSU game day for basic brunch and I liked the vibe.

Any of the downtown hotels have to be ok. Don't go looking for trouble at 2am, but you shouldn't even see any trouble you aren't seeking.

Solid choices for Lod Cook Hotel, Renaissance, and I guess Crown Plaza on benington.

St. Francisville is a bit of a drive, but you'll love the vibe and will definitely come back.

re: Baton Rouge Estate Attorney Needed

you don't have to be trustee of their portion of their trusts. that just puts you in between them and their money. Better to hire/pay a corporate trustee to manage it for them and distribute their periodic income according to their needs. Your mom can put a clause in there that if they contest anything, then they don't get anything. I don't know what ideas the attorney might have for the living situation and keeping up the house, but they've probably dealt with it before. Make sure you ask about how to write in about addiction clauses. It'll cost about $350 an hour for about $5000 or so and it'll be worth it to pay an attorney. No way you know what to do to include all the paragraphs and back up paragraphs; if the/then this scenarios. Good luck.

so that's assuming a woman doesn't work and also financially contribute, provide security. how many households is that...a majority?

I guess if a woman stays home for the husband to provide resources, she isn't contributing.

are you saying a bunch of men are being thrown in jail for not providing after divorce? I don't understand the government compelling men in divorce argument.

AI Overview
Yes, you can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for qualified long-term care (LTC) insurance premiums, subject to annual age-based IRS limits. The policy must meet specific criteria, like being guaranteed renewable and covering help with daily activities or cognitive impairment, and it cannot be a hybrid life/LTC policy.
Age-Based Deduction Limits (Example for 2024):
40 or younger: $470
41-50: $880
51-60: $1,760
61-70: $4,710
71 or older: $5,880
never used my tub. wish I had an outlet above it. my outlet is to the left of my sink with no counter space to put my appliances when plugged in unless I drape the cords over the sink. tub side of the counter has tons of counter space, but i'm guessing it's against code.

I'd rather women (your daughter, wife, sister and mom) be hypervigilant than be complacent and let their guard down. it's not a safe city and women who have a false sense of safety are good targets. You won't care until it happens to someone you care about, then you'll be sorry you ever felt the way you do. It's better to safe than sorry.
