A new Edith Cowan University study, published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports, shows lifting weights for as little as three seconds a day at maximum effort can improve muscle strength.
quote:

The study involved 39 healthy university students performing one muscle contraction at maximum effort for three seconds per day for five days a week over four weeks.
quote:

Muscle strength increased more than 10 per cent for the group which performed the eccentric bicep curl after the four weeks, but less increase in muscle strength was found for the other two exercise groups.
quote:

The no-exercise group saw no increase.
quote:

"We haven't investigated other muscles yet, but if we find the three-second rule also applies to other muscles, then you might be able to do a whole-body exercise in less than 30 seconds," he said.

Are you still allowed to scream when throwing weights after 3 seconds?

Am I wrong for assuming this would probably be the case? Maybe not at 10%, granted.

I hope there wasn’t too much time that went into this portion of the study.

How do you do an eccentric curl without first doing a concentric one? Maybe that's why this group showed the most improvement.

Skipping putting proper effort into the control group is why a lot of studies are shite. Researchers always have an expectation for the control but no matter how certain the result nor how logical it is without a proper control it is hard to make a conclusion with any certainty. Even in this study the small n is concerning.

This is to aid old people, not create Olympic powerlifting champions
