Just had a telemed call with a resident at the nursing home where I do consulting

Dear Lord, it's hard to hear an elderly woman say "I'm so lonely" when I asked how she was doing. 
They're still in isolation in their rooms for meals and therapy and everything.
Was nice to see a resident though who totally recognized me and was able to visit for a bit -- when the staff member walked out of the room, she said that she hadn't seen him that happy and excited in a while.
Hoping that restrictions are lifted sooner rather than later so that these residents mental health won't suffer anymore than it has.

Both my grandmas are feeling the same way and they still live independently in their own homes. Can’t imagine how someone confined basically to a single room feels. frick this virus.

17 already have .. about 8 others have died from other diagnoses but one died from starvation (she refused to eat) and the other literally went batshit crazy.

It's terrible. Nursing homes are already such incredibly sad places.
I fear the "sitting around waiting to die" part way more than the actual dying part of getting old.

The loneliness is likely killing more than the virus. The only reason many of these elderly fight to hang on is to be able to see their loved ones

Do they have devices and wifi? They can talk to all their buds that they can't be around right now.

Many of our residents were very active with activities before this .. movies, art, plants, music .. now it's just awful. We actually have a good number who chose to be there as they didn't want to burden their families. We had 4 couples at one time -- now we have 2 couples and 1 widower.
The staff does what they can to keep them engaged but it's hard when you have lots of other residents to care for and every activity has to be on an individual basis in their room (unless they have 2 to a room but even then ...)

I never liked my dad, for good reason, but I have been calling more because he is stuck in that room most of the day right now. They are letting them go outside for several hours at a time when its nice, which is good. They can only be 2 people (I think its 2) in the halls at any one time, so unless its nice, they are in their rooms for about 20-22 hours a day.

Some indeed do .. and there is wifi. The staff that assisted me with the call also does FaceTime with families when either the resident or family wants. There is one gentleman that FaceTimes every day which is awesome .. window visits are great but it's not the same.
It's hard too as they tend to "group up" and have card games, watch movies, sit and visit in small groups and that can't be done now.

I'm not sure that ours are doing that but I wish that they would. And blessings for you for continuing to keep in touch with your dad. Not sure I'll do the same later as I don't even do it now (that's a whole other story but he should have tried 50 years ago so ...).

It’s freakin no better than prison. They get trapped in their rooms, have limited interaction and aren’t allowed visitors. My Stepmom is in a Nursing Home. My Dad hasn’t been able to see her since mid March and barely gets to talk to her once-twice a week.
The sad part is JBE couldn’t give a shite less about their mental health and what the lockdown is doing to Nursing Home residents. I wish someone could find a legitimate way to sue him and the State for false imprisonment.

Imagine being 80 years old, and they lock your arse away without seeing friends and family for 6 months, in hopes you can live 6 months longer to maybe see friends and family again

I keep hearing about protecting the eldery but when I asked the ADON if LDH had come in with a "strike team" that they kept saying they'd send to homes that needed help, she only sent
emoji. NO ONE came to help them .. NO ONE. The 5 RNs in management and 1 LPN staffed the covid unit ... they did feeding, changing, housekeeping, EVERYTHING. JBE & LDH sent no one.

You have no idea how much stories like this piss me off. A good friend of mine had lost their mom during COVID and she was forced to die alone. All they could do was wave at her through a window.
But if they wanted to go and destroy businesses or violently attack Trump supporters, they would have been given the green light.
