You do know the police's main job is revenue generation, right?

Then why make up some lame story about cupholder change?
No one has change in their car anymore.
Its 2019.
Be proud of your junk.

Even if you were on your phone, that's surely not against the law if your stopped at a red light.

The real story:
OP sits at a red light reading a TD thread about penis injections. As he glances up, he sees he is being pulled over. Slides phone under his leg as he pulls to the shoulder.
OP - what seems to be the problem officer?
Trooper - looks like you were on your phone sitting at the red light.
OP - golly gee, no sir, see I was just digging for some change here in my console.
Trooper - well, ok. You drive safe, I will let you off with a warning.
OP - gee thanks officer. You have a great day, and thank you for everything you do for us.
OP drives off, pulls phone out and starts a thread about getting pulled over, while bashing state troopers.

Calm down. He’s doing exactly what your tax dollars pay him to do. He ensured you weren’t impaired and let you go.
Get over it.
Get over it.

This is actually the primary function of organized government, in general...makes no difference where that government is or what it's labeled as being.
And the primary function of a free citizenry is supposed to be ensuring that government doesn't grow too large so that individual rights aren't hindered. We've failed, like all others have...just sucks, because those that are making us fail never actually belonged here in the first place.
We are Rome 2.

While his initial point is incorrect, and using phone at a red light is still illegal, if there are no keys in the ignition you are not driving. You are pretending.

A little over a month ago I was pulled over. Officer walks over to my window and chuckles while saying "I see you decided to put your seat-belt on". Until this point I had no idea what I was being pulled over for, let him know I had it on the entire time, and asked if that was the reason I had been pulled over. He said yes. When I passed this cop, he was parked facing the opposite direction with three lanes in between us. To make matters even more ridiculous was the fact that I was wearing a black jacket, my seats are black leather, the seat-belt is black, and my windows are tinted (within legal limits). He asked me multiple times if I was lying to him before letting me drive off with no ticket. :CSB:

I got pulled over for texting while driving once for looking at my gps while it was mounted to the dash. I hit the zoom out button and he popped the lights. I did get a ticket and later that day I got a call from the chief of police in Broussard apologizing for the misunderstanding.
Cops are dicks. Plain and simple.

I have yet to hear of anyone getting pulled over for using a cellphone in any way while driving. This may be the first.

Distracted driving is a huge problem these days. Not only the leading cause of accidents but the leading cause of jackassery on the roads. You should be thanking that officer for trying to address this epidemic.

That fricking blows dude... meanwhile, all the fricking left lane warriors go about their business blocking traffic unscathed... missed the ferry and was late to class yesterday because of those assholes

Fricking Broussard cops.
Had my share of issues with one in particular back in 2009/2010. Stalking, harassment, you name it.
Drove past him one day singing to the radio and he pulled me over claiming I was “running my mouth at him”. Multiple complaints by many people later he was promoted to a desk job.

Is it against the law to check traffic on your phone at a stop light. I do this every morning and afternoon before hopping on I-10 for commute?

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"
If your answer is ever anything but 'no', you're just throwing money away for no good reason. If they have proof of a violation, your answer is irrelevant.

Don't you think they have to be to be good at their jobs? At least to some degree. Sort of like I don't want a timid surgeon. I want an arrogant SOB that thinks he can fix anything.
