We laid off earlier this year and yesterday I heard from my manager more layoffs are coming soon. I am in O&G at an engineering consulting firm.

Jacobs Field services will hire you if you can:
1) pipefit $26.50
2) weld- $33
3) millwright- no sure

this would be in the BR area
These are not the best payscales but it will pay the bills

an you can move up to a team leader very fast if you have any competence.

Take the Praxis. Some school district will hire you in history or social studies. You can do some coaching on the side.

I'm a Poli Sci/Geography major that works in the IT field now. I always fear something similar happening to me.

Yeah. My dumbass didn't take the praxis yet however because I was doing well in this company. Moved from basic labor to team leader in less than 3 months and was eligible next month for the company to pay for tuition at MSU's school of engineering.

Sorry to hear that. Which Praxis exam? I took the Music and PLT 7-12 Praxis exams. The music one was actually fun. I'm also a MSU aerospace engineering dropout.

Cooking fries in vegetable oil doesn't mean you're in the "oil field".

Coca-Cola usually hires pretty steadily. Have a cousin in NOLA just got on over there. Might have been hired in BR, tho. I'll have to ask.

They've been hiring a lot of delivery drivers here. Tough work but it's a job. Bumped everyone's pay a few weeks ago, coolift routes start off at $44,000 here now.

Keep your head up man. I was laid off 6 years ago and I thought it was the end of the world. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise. I went from working 2-3 weeks at a time on a drilling rig 8-10 hours away from the house to working in an office M-F 8-5 making more $ in a much more comfortable setting. Best of luck to you

When I got my first IT job after leaving wireline. I wanted to pay them.

7WT, doors will open and they will be better than the ones that closed.
