Never understood being late. Alarm clocks are cheap. Everyone has a cell phone now - did you call & tell them you were late for a reason?
Stop whining. move on, and be on time.
If the job was important to you, you would have been on time

You've learned the lesson that working for others is bullshite.
Find something that you can do to work for yourself. Look into starting a craft beer distribution biz. The three tier system keeps a lot of small breweries out of markets. The big players lock out the up and comers. Get space in a bonded temp control warehouse. Lease a van. Take shipments on credit or hold inventory so you pay the mfr when you sell to a retailer. Start selling. Enjoy freedom and the confidence in making your own way
This may be the best advise possible to give to a young person (without the specific business recommendation).

I worked at a liquor store ok.
That's not fricking sales. That's running a cash register and helping customers who are going to buy booze anyway find their optimal beverage. No one enters a liquor store without having an intention of buying booze. You may help them invest in some certain type of booze, but it's not as if someone is walking in and then they'll go down to the liquor store a mile or two away just to see if they have better deals. The sales guys are the ones who work for the whiskey companies to get their whiskey in your store, and then try to get them the best shelf space.

The manager gave away free ice. The owner's mother had given away ice for years and years. But the owner decided to stop doing it cause she's greedy. Many of the customers that came to the place for years were very upset about it.
Your new owner is stupid. Giving away free ice (c'mon, is anything ever really free? It's called a loss leader, your owner should google the term) is a great way to build customer loyalty. I had a buddy who owned a convenience store and whenever anyone bought beer there before going boating on the river you could take your cooler in and fill it up with ice for free. He would make out in the end after you spent over $100 per trip on a couple cases of beer and gassing up the boat and the truck.

I never said it was a sales job, but we where requested to upsell and I did a good job of it and was rewarded for it. Y'all assumed it was a big sales job.

for a store thats so terribly run, it seems to be doing well.
That's cause only the manager and I were ever their.. We did everything.. The only thing she did was bring us change and go to the ABC store to pick up what we ordered.. and she'd screw that up pretty regularly.

No offense but I don't think anyone thought that was the case

About a dollar four ninety.
This Alabama cretin dude (redundant?) was, is and will always be a victim.
Attempting to help him is a lost cause until he realizes the problem is him, not the rest of the world.

OP has things backwards. He thinks a $50 bonus was a reward and getting fired was punishment. Getting fired was the reward and a $50 bonus is a kick to the nuts for a job well done.
You were fired because someone you applied with contacted your manager to ask about your work ethic, skills, etc. They knew you were looking for a job and did a preemptive first strike.
You have product knowledge of all the products ABC sells. Get a sales gig with them. I have heard the money is pretty good. Win a few sales contests there and see if your sales manger GAF if you walk in late with your zipper down and little Nick hanging out.

The OT has a ten page thread about a liquor store job. I'm never disappointed!

I was fairly certain he wasn't a Pediatric Cardiologist. The one I know exhibits a hair more wisdom in his judgement skills.

Sounds like the OP is describing Amy's Country Candles.

I hate to kill you on this but who brags about being the top sales person when you are the only one ever there. And then in the same thread say you had only 2 lates and NOTHING else (.....except the two write ups mentioned later).
And then is surprised when after requesting off and being told you had to open the store solo you roll in what sounds like hours late (was the store closed during prime weekend hours?).
Take it for a blessing that you are gone but own your part in it a little

not unless you're the only liquor store in town, which means you can't fail.
this is becoming a shady business even with the laws/regs in place, for example so many sales reps coming through stores, many selling bad product for the "bonus" that get's kicked back in payout to the store, then the product is "bought back".
it's a really tight margin business now in most regions.
