You should have quit the first week.

No, it sounds like he should have spammed their place with ghey pron, and peaced out that bitch like an OT baller, while giving zero fricks.

To the OP, did you call as soon as you knew you would be late to let them know or did you just show up late?

You've learned the lesson that working for others is bullshite.

Find something that you can do to work for yourself. Look into starting a craft beer distribution biz. The three tier system keeps a lot of small breweries out of markets. The big players lock out the up and comers. Get space in a bonded temp control warehouse. Lease a van. Take shipments on credit or hold inventory so you pay the mfr when you sell to a retailer. Start selling. Enjoy freedom and the confidence in making your own way.

Man, I just read most of your posts in this thread. You don't sound like some entitled little prick that thinks the world owes them a paycheck. You actually do sound like someone who worked hard, tried to do the right thing, etc.

You also sound young, with no appreciation of how hard work ethic is to find in many folks your age. Because you don't understand that, you don't understand your value to potential employers, and EVEN MORE SO, your ability to get hired. Use it - work ethic - to your advantage in the process.

Do yourself a favor, and do this........pick 2 or 3 places that are:

1. Geographically convenient
2. Really interesting to you, in terms of being employed there.
3. True/reasonable possibilities in terms of employing you, and then....

target them, apply, and sell yourself to them. Tell them why you want to work there, and why you'd be a great employee.

For the younger folks reading this, the above comment regarding work ethic isn't a slam on your generation - just a fact - and then, only a fact WHEN WORK ETHIC IS NARROWLY/RIGIDLY measured and defined, such as the place the OP formerly worked. They either didn't like you (nothing you can do about that), or they confused prompt perfect attendance with work ethic.

Every generation brings with it a tool bag and skill set. MOST employers are likely to be in my generation (I'm 48). Know that GREAT employers are more likely to NOT confuse "great employee potential" with a euphemism for "someone with my own skill set". They know that what your generation lacks in one area is overcome by their excellence in another. Because your "hiring man" may be an old fart (or fartess), sell yourself to him/her based on having a skill set more prominently displayed in his/her generation. They'll relate, and that'll serve you well in an interview.

BS. Everyone is late at least once a year. Probably more. Has nothing to do with work ethic

I am trying to figure this out as well. First off, the OP sounds like a hard worker but also sounds like a simpleton. Why would you work under such horrible condiditons?

Now, to figure out what this guy used to do:

- retail sales
- brick & mortar location, or at least some kind of stand.
- mom & pop, two locations, so not a chain
- manager that he only sees 5 minutes a day, at shift change
- manager got in trouble for handing out free samples of an inexpensive product in order to boost sales.
- sales contests where the OP earned a bonus for most sales.
- this one is important, OP worked on holidays including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Ok OT, what type of retail locations are open on Christmas Day? Could be a convenience store, but what type of convenience store has sales people? Also, I've never known a convenience store to give out free samples.

Hmm, what could this place be?

I worked at a liquor store ok.

I got bonuses for upselling liquor.

The manager gave away free ice.

The owner's mother had given away ice for years and years. But the owner decided to stop doing it cause she's greedy. Many of the customers that came to the place for years were very upset about it.

I've always wanted to open a liquor store. Takes a decent amount of capital to open.

I wasn't aware that liquor sales were allowed in Alabama on Christmas day. They aren't in GA.

The store I worked at was breaking sales records

for a store thats so terribly run, it seems to be doing well.

also, ive noticed the 2 times late turned into 2 times late and a couple other writeups.

no big deal, sounds like it wasnt a great fit and a good excuse to move on.
