Reminds me the Lamarque Ford commercials from the 90’s:

“WE’RE BRIDGING THE GAP!”

Somebody explain the west bank to someone not from NOLA.

I have been there before and I guess I just assumed it was formerly a working class or middle class area that wasn't that nice anymore (like a ton of places in America)?

as a transplanted Texan who lives in Mandeville but works on the West Bank (and lived here for about a year), I look forward to the answers to this question. i have my own take on it, but i dont feel that i have enough history here to give an answer with any clout.

Basically. It's nearly all lower middle class with the few upper class neighborhoods being mostly retirees, trade folks or Viet/Arab business owners. Old Gretna and Algiers Point are nice but the rest is old and decaying.

the problem as i see it with the west bank is the same as pretty much all of NOLA. even if you live in a beautiful house in a nice neighborhood, as soon as you drive out of your neighborhood, you are in mogadishu.

Been Westbank living the past few years.

The problem is the industry it was built on collapsed. There are some hidden gems there though, and you get more bang for your buck property wise.

The Jefferson parish part is better than the Orleans parish part, though Algiers folks would lose their mind if you told them you considered them the West Bank.

Jesus I actually remember that commercial

I grew up in “new Gretna” and it wasn’t a bad place at all in the 80s and 90s to grow up. My parents still live there and it’s nowhere near as nice as it was when it was being developed.

the resulting subsidized housing transition that followed and been a huge cause of decay. I know MANY algerines that consider algiers the westbank - and they aren't newcomers.
