Very sorry to hear. But you were there for him/her at the end.
Remember how much he loved you and how important it was that you were there for him.

I’ve lost dogs and have been heartbroken. For the life of me, I can’t imagine being such a pussy that I come onto a message board and appeal for sympathy from other adult males. I’ll never understand why you so called men do this. Losing a dog sucks and is part of life. We all read Old Yeller growing up. Man the frick up.

Lost my greyhound 10 years ago. He was 15 .I held him in my arms when they put him to sleep . I cried like a baby . Crying now just thinking about it . Sorry for your loss .

Your pup was obviously so fortunate to have you all those years, but pups deserve more years.

Have their been enough replies yet to say that dogs do not have souls and don't go to heaven?
That doesn't mean the loss doesn't hurt. Sorry for your loss, OP.

My folks put down their dog of 15 years last week.
Started tearing up at work when my dad told me he was heading to the vet with her.
Little Eleanor Rigby was an amazing dog who kept me company during the telework days of Covid.

Thanks for the words of comfort, guys
I just walked back home for the first time in 14 and 1/2 years without my little guy greeting me and it was a gut punch I’ve never felt. These words do help, I’m looking ahead at a rough evening

It is a damn hard thing.
They live to love us, and teach us about love.
God entrusted you with his care, and in return, you got a lifetime of love from him.
He was at peace in your arms, and rested easily and gently.
Soon, the good memories and loving thoughts will replace the deep grief you feel right now.
And then you will know, it was still all worth it.
