It's getting extremely big in the accounting industry to have "centers of excellence" or contractors of accountants in India/Lithuania/others.

C Suite loves it, the people doing the work refuse to use it because it’s trash.

Then C Suite forces people to use it. Work product comes back useless, work is redone leading to missed deadlines and big write offs.

C Suite bitches about financials so people don’t use it next year.

Repeat cycle indefinitely

Don't rope Eastern Europe into this. Poles, Romanians and Ukranians (living in Poland) do perfectly fine system operations work. They typically get a hell of a lot more IT/logic training in high school compared to us.

There are cultural niggles you learn, like how I was told that Polish men won't do anything until a woman tells them to (turned out to be true.) But it's nowhere like the infuriating bobbling head and empty commitments to provide services on time that you get out of SE Asia.

It is hard to see how America is better off now that we have basically caved to international corporations. We went from a father/husband in manufacturing able to support a family to young professionals not having kids or owning homes while both working 45 hours a week

We get very cheap labor and loyal, smart workers by going to India. Not saying we have to like it, but it's the profit margins that corporations are chasing (to fund their executives' compensation)

As a shareholder of many companies, I am OK with this. more profit = more dividends for me

Play the game and invest in these companies, get yourself some money and stop bitching

loyal,

Surely you jest. They're not even loyal to the firms they work for, and often "work" full time jobs at more than one. Seeing how Indian firms work from the inside, I wouldn't be loyal either.

Sit back and relax as a 22 week project becomes a 40 week project. Then a 46 week project. Yes, love those profits.

yeah, i don't believe you.

I've been in IT for 18 years. I've worked with H1B's across many IT skillsets for 2 very large Fortune 500 companies. All of them, at best, are of average intelligence and work ethic compared to employees from right here in the US.

I live in NW fort worth, literally in the sticks, and there are Indians EVERYWHERE. I guess covid pushed them outta Frisco/Plano. They will find a new housing development and invade it. You know it because they walk every evening, gaggles of them in packs walking down the side walks. They all drive teslas too, slowly, very slowly.

They just about always go with low-bid. It's not surprising your experiences have been with subpar resources.

I'm not a fan of the situation either, but until the customers learn to put real effort into proposal evaluation and hold vendors accountable to performance and completion metrics, we are where are.

That said, I don't bother with customers that seek only low-bid work.

I freaking dispise H1 B visas. I have seen up close how oilfield companies lobbied extensively to increase the number of h1b visas available. I have also worked at a few companies that went out of there way to hire Indian mechanical engineers with only a bachelor's degree when there was no obvious shortage of US citizens with an ME degree.
The H1B is not supposed to be a direct path to a green card or citizenship but it is being used that way. Contrary to the opinion of some the value of a US green card and a path to citizenship is quite high and 3rd world engineers will gladly work at 2/3 the wage with the chance they can pick up a green card in 10 years. The companies get a compliant indentured servant at a bargain price. It also allows them to shed engineers quickly during a business downturn.

Spot-on.

They might not on the whole be very bright, but they're smart enough to know that this is the greatest country in the world and they'll do anything to get here permanently.

I did learn that India does not allow for dual citizenship but getting a green card is not an issue. They have to get the card of course before applying for citizenship. From the ones I have worked with it's typically a 10 to 14 year period before getting a card unless they marry a US citizen.
