Our company sent out a memo that only black people have that day off, or people that identify as black.

So the problem isn’t that there is a holiday to celebrate the emancipation of slaves in the US, it’s that it occurs on June 19th? There is another day you’d suggest?

Yeah, December 6th, the date slavery actually ended in the US.

Juneteenth is a legitimate TEXAS holiday... everyone else is jumping on board because it has a catchy name and is conveniently in between other holidays.

Same way I celebrate the 4th of July, or any other day that is about expanding freedom.

great new addition to our calendar of holidays. Why anyone has a problem celebrating this is beyond me.

I mean, when it comes down to it, THIS. It’s a holiday. You don’t like what it’s for, don’t go to the damn parade, but enjoy the day off from work.

Careful how you use the world "legitimate." Texas also has Confederate Heroes' day, Texas Independence Day, Cesar Chavez Day, San Jacinto Day, Emancipation Day, and *LBJ Day.*

Stay far away from any celebrations as I don’t like bullets flying around.

Well, I mean, it wasn’t the day “the last slaves were freed” Those would have been the slaves held by Indians in the Territories over a year later. Hell, the north still had slaves after Juneteenth

Sounds like the same folks who complain that Columbus didn’t really “discover” America or point out that he never landed on the continent.

As a black person. The celebration of Juneteenth angers me. How can one find happiness in others pain? We live in a sick sadistic society, and you clowns come here and spew your racist unfunny jokes.

First day on the road to Colorado. Doing three weeks, from BR to RMNP, the west to Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon (July 4), Petrified Forest, Meow Wolf in Sante Fe, then back home.

Yeah.

Memorial Day.

The descendants of the freed slaves should trot their asses to a Civil War battlefield and cemetery and thank all of those men for laying down their lives for their freedom.
