The big question is if the Republicans get on board.

If the Dems pass anything through the House, which is virtually inevitable with their majority, the Senate will be under tremendous pressure to get a floor vote on it. Failure to get a vote would put several Republican Senate seats in marijuana friendly states in jeopardy in 2020, especially Cory Gardner from Colorado.

He won’t unless Trump and Co. openly supports it. Sadly, you have a fair portion of voting conservatives that think reefer madness is a thing.

The bill would tax marijuana products at a modest 5% to establish a Trust Fund to assist state and local governments in expunging criminal records.

So does this mean if you got busted for a small amount say in college, it could be like it never happened? Asking for a friend.

the biggest issue facing legal states right now is access to the banking system...the one that stares you in the face is the cash-only issue at the retail level, but the bigger obstacle to continued growth and investment is that no financial institution will extend a loan or line of credit for cannabis industry investment, because they can't

say you and me wanted to open a grow facility, or a retail store, or an R&D facility...we would have to raise private investment funds to do it. that is stifling real economic development from the top to the bottom

I'm sure it would require a delicate balance of organizing who should vote for or against to make sure there was a slim majority voting aye while letting the senators from the super conservative areas say they opposed it for self preservation

It's Big Pharma and Big Beer that are the heavy hitters against legalization.

Not to mention the drug cartel lobby. They're concerned this is a slippery slope to more sensible drug laws...

Just imagine the hell that would break lose if the Dems somehow manage to screw it up and not pass something out of the House this year.

It will be legal one day.... just going to be a battle between Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi to see who is last to allow it. The Battle of the Bible Belt.

Well, you know as well as I do that the chances of this being a clean bill are about the same as Oweo honoring a ban bet

I don't know. Maybe the medical use law in LA will baby step it into legalization. There are a hell of a lot of boomers who think it should be legal.

I am not political but I would bet there a lot more people who are PRO marijuana than against. This needs to finally pass and be done.

This.

The golden goose is going to get strangled if this passes.

No more convictions, incarceration, asset forfeitures, drug trials, bail bondsmen, lawyers fees...

Its a whole industry.

Big Pharma? Absolutely.

Big Beer? Not so much anymore. They see the writing on the wall and are actually investing in the marijuana industry. See Constellation/Canopy as the best example but there are several others.

Big Pharma yes. But, Big Beer Companies (Bud/Inbev, Constellation, and Molson Coors) already have heavy stakes in in the marijuana industry.

Yeah my company deals with marijuana in Canada where it's federally legal.
