More erosion of civil liberties and economic health under the guise of public safety.

A Louisiana judge Thursday upheld Gov. John Bel Edwards' statewide mask mandate and bar restrictions as legal and enforceable, rejecting claims from Jefferson Parish business owners that the Democratic governor overstepped his legal authority in enacting the coronavirus rules.

Judge Janice Clark delivered her ruling after a two-day hearing in which the plaintiffs argued Edwards' regulations were illegal, unfair and an overreaction to the coronavirus outbreak. The Edwards administration countered that the rules helped to slow the spread of the virus and protect public safety.

“The court is firmly of the opinion that the governor has exercised his power deliberately, on behalf of the people of this state and in an effort to be proactive to limit the loss of life,” Clark said.

FYI , Janice Clark is 73 years old. Mandatory judiciary retirement in Louisiana is 70.

Can you not be reelected after 70 or have to retire?

Sad. No matter how these people interpret the rules, this is not freedom and I think the founding fathers would agree.

Then why, exactly, is she still on the bench?

She can finish out her current term, but can't seek re-election. FWIW, she actually just challenged that rule and lost.

That would be why she is barred from running for reelection. The courts have held that age-limited officials can finish their terms as long as they were under the threshold when elected.

All of Jefferson Parish residents, business ownership, and leadership: We want to open up.

JBE: No

Courts: governor has exercised his power deliberately, on behalf of the people of this state

Makes sense

The irony of an illegal judge making decisions on this. If only the news would report it.

Did she cite a law it just campaign for more free money for Democrats?

The Republicans have failed miserably letting the Democrats take over the government like this.
