At best, they beat the charges but end up drowning in debt from legal fees and losing their jobs while being subjected to harrassment and threats from SJW mobs. At worst, they get convicted of hate crimes they didn’t commit and get lengthy prison sentences.

Most folks have to report to prison and start their sentence right away even though an appeal is pending. But if they show there is a legit basis for appeal (which does not necessarily mean they will win on appeal), especially when the sentence could be over before the appeal is decided, they can be allowed to delay reporting to prison until the appeal is decided.
If their conviction is later upheld, it has merely delayed the beginning of the prison term. If the conviction is overturned, they avoided serving time for a bogus conviction.
