One of the unanticipated problems that Colo. officials are dealing with is that drug "dealers" from all the surrounding states are crossing over into Colo, buying in mass quantities & then taking it back over state lines.

more sales for them. No different then people from Texas driving to lake chuck to gamble or placing bets in vegas for their friends.

The biggest crime that would start would be armed robberies since it is a cash only business.

Not exactly. They are getting their supplies from illegal growing operations. You can only buy a 1/4 ounce I'd you're out of state, 1 ounce in state, and 2 ounces of your medical.

It's certainly happening, and is the reason Colorado was being sued by Kansas and Nebraska. But we have the best pot in the world, atm, so it's not a surprise. Mexican cartels have even started shipping Colorado pot into Mexico. But it basically comes down to the fact that instead of weed coming from Canada/BC, it's now coming domestically from Colorado and other states that legalized it.

I see this as a problem that will go away as more prohibition dominoes start to fall.

I agree with this analysis - this was one of the expected (yet unintended) consequences of partial legalization. Once cannabis is rescheduled (which I expect relatively soon) - that makes MMJ legal everywhere with a prescription. That is going to be the final wedge needed for the Colorado model (which I do believe is both solid and proven at this point) - to be the Gold Standard for states that want to go recreational. It may never come to the deep south, but recreational will happen in at least 2 dozen states over the next 2 decades. I think that's the low end.

I believe it will happen nationwide, and the federal government will treat it like alcohol. As of now, while it's legal in the state, many cities and counties have not allowed sales. In eastern Colorado, there are very few dispensaries. Kinda like blue laws in many states. It's not illegal to possess it, but you can't buy it. Which I think is fine. If a community doesn't want weed sold in their town, that's their right. Just don't turn a hard working, tax paying citizen into a criminal over something that's victimless.

"We want to point out four officer-involved shootings?" said Normand. "Why are we not talking about the drug dealing? Why are we not talking about the fear of the families of my deputies?"

I didn't read the rest of it but this part at least seems accurate

Interesting that discussion is happening certainly, but that doesn't mean jack until an actual bill is filed, and it makes it out of committee. It's a travesty HB117 wasn't given more consideration before being killed.

The only true conservative, Rand Paul, would've legalized it federally. Let the state's decide. Then I think more states would do it. Now only Bernie is left who would do it. I don't think any others will.

Here's an article outlining the top candidates position on Marijuana. I wish it mentioned Rubio, but it only detailed Bernie, Hillary, Trump, and Cruz.

Mostly against it

Marco Rubio: Florida senator Marco Rubio, one of the leading presidential candidates for the Republican Party, has a generally negative approach to marijuana's momentum. In fact, if he became president he'd consider using his "Marcomentum" to stamp out recreational use of the drug entirely. When questioned on Meet the Press in August 2015, Rubio clearly stated that he'd enforce the federal law when it comes to recreational marijuana. He's previously been on the record suggesting that there's no responsible way for recreational marijuana to be used.

However, Rubio is open to lifting the federal ban on medical marijuana if it's shown by the Food and Drug Administration to demonstrate medical benefits. Researchers are still gathering plenty of data on marijuana, so it'll likely be years before they have enough data to take to lawmakers.
