If Louisiana legalized marijuana other southern states would follow.... slowly. Mississippi on the other hand.... always last.

I have been told that Sheriff Normand does not carry a gun because he has anger management issues.

If marijuana doesn't make you violent why does every other criminal they arrest have weed and paraphernalia on them? This guy is right about the "high" cost of drugs in our community

Yea I'm sure it would. I'm just say that ideally, all state tax revenue would go to education and healthcare. If a town or city wants to use the money to pay cops, they should levy their own tax to cover that.

When is the last time a guy all hopped up on weed robbed a bank, stole a car, or raped someone?

Nice try Newell.

I also love people that equate "weed" with other hard drugs. Yes all crime drug related will not go away, but petty weed busts and marijuana trafficking certainly will. This is the prohibition of our age. At some point our kids or their kids will look back and say "shite weed was illegal back then!!??" Like we do with alcohol. In fact I believe it's easier to function under the influence of weed than alcohol.

Wow - that would be a massive step forward if so. I haven't been able to even find any cannabis related bills filed for the 2016 general session.

If anything, rather than spend money on education, spend money on better jails. That's where most of the public school kids end up anyway

You also have more kids in public school than private school. Obviously a larger percentage of public school kids will end up there because there are.more of them to frick up. See how stats work?

I found the story - at least the discussion is there. But then there's this:

"I just don't think it sends the right message that we're going to legalize it because we have a budget problem," Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser said.

Nungesser said he would look to the sheriff's offices across the state and go with their recommendations.

Guess what - it's not gonna happen.

Main reason for passage would be income from dallas, houston, and gulf Coast

Why you only initially legalize in GNO, LC and the port city

Remember all those cops that got shot last week over the booze raid? Yeah, me neither.

Legalizing drugs eliminates drug raids which prevents cops from getting shot by drug dealers.

Not necessarily. Profits from the legalization of marijuana would be allocated to different organizations such as law enforcement.

It won't happen. Louisiana politicians, such as this retard, would literally prefer to gut LSU than amend the state constitution or legalize a nontoxic plant. The facts mean nothing to them. It doesn't matter at all that pot is not toxic, not addictive in any meaningful way, has medicinal value, has brought in millions of tax dollars to Colorado with no negative effects on crime, that it is intrusive big government at it's worst...none of that matters.

Politicians are ruled by the sheriffs and DAs, and these frickheads only care for their own revenues and power. And until enough of the older generation does off to affect votes, politicians will obey the sheriffs and DAs. And....the new governor comes from a sheriff family.

Just look at the swift quiet death of Honores bill last year--it would be allowed the citizens to decide for themselves. Can't have that in Louisiana, hell no.
