Anyone have any insight in this school? Toured the campus yesterday, and it’s on beautiful grounds. They emphasize classical teaching, and the classrooms are smaller than average (probably 12-15 students/classroom). Couple things concern me...the lack of technology integration in the classes and courses, and the ultimate career choices of their alumni (no physicians, engineers, etc). The school only started in 2007, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that there isn’t a large sample size. We have 1 child that currently goes to St. Pius, but she dreads going every morning. Hoping to find a school that fits her.

What's up with this? Not trying to pry, just curious as I know several people who have kids there and we'll probably end up sending our future kids there as it's in our neighborhood.

Don’t get hung up on that. There is no evidence that integration of technology has made any advancements in student learning. As long as they can operate a computer, which they can learn at home, they will be fine.

If you want more tech, send them there u til middle school and apply for the STEM academy.

I am a teacher with a child at a private school, and that’s my plan.

We pulled our kid from there last year as well. It's a good school as far as classrooms and learning, but the administration is terrible and they could give 2 shits about athletics. My older kid now plays HS football at a Lafayette HS and he's pretty good. Some of the kids from Fatima and Cathedral told him until they met him they thought all kids at Pius were, and I quote, "a bunch of figs."

Does this have anything to do with OLOL here in BTR? I'm confused...

Select few girls that bully her. The academics are great, albeit there is a lot of common core themes in their learning that makes homework frustrating at times. Also, and a lot of other parents can attest to this, St. Pius has a reputation of being very unforgiving and strict with their discipline. I’m all for discipline, but there are a lot of nit picky rules, and the kids are not allowed to be kids. I just want her to be happy and enjoy going to school...unfortunately, St. Pius is not the fit for her. We live 2 minutes away, but I’ll give up the convenience in exchange for a school that she can thrive in.

not sure if he is still involved with the school but Fr Bryce Sibley is one of the biggest assholes I have met in my life, priest or not. Sanctimonious prick who's superiority complex betrays his vows as a priest on a regular basis. I had regular weekly interactions with him for 3 years, none pleasant. Dude got silenced by the bishop of Lafayette for preaching shite that didn't jive with the Catechism of the church after multiple warnings.

He is super smart and knowledgeable, however. I'll give credit where it is due. Maybe he changed since I dealt with him 10+ years ago. Maybe he has nothing to do with the school anymore. All I know is I would never send my kids to a school that he was involved in. That is the level of dislike I have for the man.

Most adolescent children who are victims of pedophilia often regress later in life. The pursuit of higher degrees of education can take a back seat to simply trying to cope with and forget the trauma of their past. Having said that, if your child is average in both intellect and looks, maybe he can excel in this environment. Good luck.

St Pius is the most strict when it comes to discipline out of all the catholic schools in town. Also tougher academically

You said it best, when referring to having the right “fit” for her and your family.

I’ve put 3 kids through Catholic school K-12, and have met parents who have sent their kids all over the Diocese, including some who switched schools along the way.

It’s all about the right fit. Problem is, how many schools do you have to try out before your kid thrives?

To your question, I have heard good things about John Paul the Great. Never heard anything negative.

JPG. Maybe he got moved to another parish. I haven't kept tabs on him in years so maybe he is gone.

ETA: It appears he is the pastor at Wisdom on Campus at ULL, so maybe you are safe.

does the archdiocese send you a ham at Christmas? It should with the amount of tuition you've been paying.

He was at Our Lady Queen of All Saints in Ville Platte for a time. Mom and dad din't care for him -- they told me all of his homilies weren't just loud but at a screaming level.

And I've heard discipline is RIDICULOUS at Pius and that's from a friend who is a pretty strict parent. They pulled their son after I think 2nd grade?

What does this mean? I've seen discipline mentioned a few times in this thread regarding St. Pius, anyone care to share specifics?

I personally drew the line at food denial, but I'm a little progressive. My neighbors waited until the cane came out.
