Clarkson recorded this song on her Christmas album not that long ago with Brooks of Brooks and Dunn. Original lyrics and all. I don’t think she cares either way. John asked her to do the song (his album) and she obliged being that they are friends.

To at least somewhat address the OP, I agree with you that it's silly to try to apply today's social mores to a song obviously from a different time. But I also see no huge issue with people trying to contextualize it for today. Listen to it, or don't. Old or new.

In the original movie where it premiered, Ricardo Montalban actually gives Esther Williams his drink which she turns her nose up rejecting it for its weakness and becoming aware that Montalban may have been drinking weaker drinks than he'd apparently given her. The moral of the incident apparently that Williams wanted a strong drink to fortify her desire and willingness to stay and realized Montalban's affections and passion were not overly influenced by strong drinks.
In the complimentary scene Garrett gives Skelton booze straight from the bottle, but he's so flustered with her advances he takes a drink from the flower vase expecting strong drink to fortify his desire to stay and getting nothing.
The two scenes taken together makes a mockery of the PC arguments of date rape.
