There's zero evidence to support your claim. You're operating on pure emotion. Is food service in Belgium and France bad? Are nurses unlikely to take care of you since you don't tip them?
Studies show that people tip the same amount whether the service is good or bad.

Who don't like to tip don't have to feel bad about it.
Have you ever been to Europe? The servers get no tips and I've had nothing but great service there.

Worked there in the mid 2000s in college. $12-$14/hr would have meant a new job with the quickness even at Joe's. No, the tip % was not immaculate but the volume was superb and made up for it.
This will be interesting. No tipping sounds freaking awesome as a customer. Until it's widespread however, these corporate chains will be putting the squeeze on managers to keep labor costs lower, which means less staffing up front and poorer service. Not to mention the obvious. The servers worth their salt aren't going to stick around and make $60-80 a night (which they don't even take home and have to claim 100% of) when they could easily be doing the same work for $100+ easily.
As it stands, this is nothing more than a publicity stunt to drum up business.

The people there are different. Europe is different. This isn't Europe. You ever been to a non tourist area? I'm wiling to bet you've never been to a small area of a middle-lower end European country? The wait staff isn't so great in those places.
Europe as a whole is much smaller than the US with a population of around 600 million.
The US only has a population of around 320 million.

At least they won't have any trouble getting people to work Sunday and Monday night shifts since there is no incentive to work the busy nights and bust your arse for more tips

A lot of your shifts were only about 4 to 5 hours. So $60 for a shift? No way.
I would routinely make over $100 for a 4-5 hour shift.
The bullshite a server has to go through isn't worth putting up with for only $12-$14 an hour. Not only that but the managers would cut you even sooner now, so you would get even less hours.
The only upside is that you won't have to worry about getting stiffed from shitty tables anymore, and won't have to worry about trying to please them.

People calling in to miss their Saturday shifts will be the biggest problem. Obviously there's pros and cons to any system.

There's a huge difference between making someone a sandwich (about a 1.5/10 on the customer interaction scale I just made up) and having to wait on someone for an hour + and cater to their every whim (8/10 on the customer interaction scale I just made up). Comparing a sandwich shop to a restaurant is apples and oranges, especially a place like Joe's. Someone once told me, "Waiting tables is a soul sucking experience." The quote could not have been more accurate. Until you have waited tables and dealt with the trash that come in and treat you as less than a human being because they are ordering food, you really can't understand. You have to smile at these people and give them great service knowing the outcome and the effect on your nightly bottom line. If you're making an a-hole a sandwich, they are still a very tiny fraction of your day.
Off topic, for those insinuating you'd get tipped poorly at Joe's because of the black people, the worst customers I ever had at that place were white trash that would order shitloads of expensive food, be demanding as frick and run you crazy, and leave you a tip so small that it didn't even cover the 3% tip share.

In a way this is a small-scale version of the minimum wage debate.
I'm fairly confident this move will discourage quality employees, attract much shittier ones, and provide much worse service.

McAlistser's brings your your food to your table, they refill your drinks, and clear your table after you leave. The only thing they don't do is take your order.
