Local roads are paid for with property taxes and sales taxes where I live. Bike lanes would be paid for the same way.

Bike lanes have been added to 2 roads I use frequently and they have screwed them up tremendously. One shot me right through downtown, now that same street is a parking lot.

The old school way of designing local, surface roads purely to move automobiles efficiently has changed. Most cities are trying to slow cars down and encourage other modes of transportation not just by building bike lanes but by narrowing roads and widening sidewalks, making one way roads two ways and adding stop lights.

You'd have to calculate the caloric equivalent of driving a vehicle instead. Here's a hint--it takes a lot more energy to move a 4000 lbs vehicle. than a 200lb man + bike.

Bicyclists must pay a road use tax.

How much? $10/ yr? $20? I only pay $60/yr for my truck. Do kids have to pay this tax?
In reality, cities are trying to encourage more cyclists and so would never require a liscense for cycling. Same reason most cities have repealed helmet laws for cyclist.

The real modern facination is people who are unable to adapt to or accept that the world has always and always will change.
Technology changes, but human nature, that’s fixed and unchanging.
That’s why there’s no such thing as actual progress.

Roads are built for commerce. Vehicle owners also pay for registration, inspections, wheel taxes, etc...to help maintain public roads. A small group of narcissists in leotards "exercising" is not something I want one tax dollar going to.

It wasn't energy used to move the objects. It was transporting and growing the larger amounts of food you need to eat because you ride a bike negates any reduction in your carbon footprint you may have gained.
Though, I'm sure that calculation could get messy when you take into account transport and refining energy for vehicle fuels.

Oh we want you to be active, just somewhere far away from us or in a gym. And especially not on Instagram

Also the OT: "What the frick you want your own lane?"
That takes away space from motor vehicles and requires lower speed limits adjacent to it

Judging by the replies, it looks like a lot of people here have never watched Top Gear or Grand Tour.

Bicycle commuters are hell to deal with in a car or as a pedestrian. It seems like 75% of them just completely ignore traffic laws.
Posted on 8/12/19 at 8:26 am to Crowknowsbest
It’s because most of them don’t know the laws and do not realize they are subject to the same laws as a car as the law does not consider them pedestrians

You don't do this for a car.

Here in Atlanta, car commuters ignore traffic laws at roughly the same percentage.

A development I’m working in was required to put in a turn lane and widen the road a quarter mile each way before the entrance to the community.
The cost to the developer was $15,000,000.00. A single turn lane is pretty close to a bike lane in both directions. But the developer will recoup the costs associated. He has many company and private vehicles he was already paying all the above but still incurred the cost for his endeavor.
Your hobby would be a waste of money to 99.5% of the taxpayers. Narcissism.
