I think you are just fighting like a dickhead. And I'm not sure why.
I think your characterization of the Cold War as a mid-century event is misleading.
The end of the Cold War, and the immediate aftermath took place from 1988/89 well into the updated Europe / Soviet Union / Russia days, on into the mid-1990s. So obviously not "mid-century". These were HUGE events for people who lived through them. So way to be disingenuous.
As to my assumptions on Americans in the teaching profession in their mid to late-40s knowing more about the Cold War...
I humbly stand corrected.

The Cold War became entrenched in the mid-1950s after the formation of these 2 rival military alliances
This is today’s final jeopardy question.
Is that not mid 20th century?
Because you are acting like it’s a travesty that two teachers wouldn’t know this answer, that’s why.
Give me a break and get off your high horse. It’s easy to sit on the couch and scream at the tv. If it’s so easy let’s see you on the set.

I thought 1950 was the Korean War?

How many questions did they get right, in this round of jeopardy, that you didn't have a clue about?
Also, people too often confuse intelligence with the degree of information that one knows.

Look, I am backing off on my original opinion. I was genuinely surprised when I made the OP. But I have gained some perspective from, of all places, the O-T.
So there... I stand corrected (and changed the OP title).
But part of me still thinks that Wheel of Fortune is more your style... kidding

This is some backtracking if I’ve ever seen it. I give you props for sticking around and admitting you’re a dumbass. Most people would’ve just abandoned the thread by now.

I don't know. I now do full time care for my elder mother, who has serious memory and decision-making issues. I walked in to bring her some grapes as a snack and saw the Final Jeopardy "answer"
When I do "play" jeopardy, I generally do terrible at modern plays, literature, opera, ballet, etc. I do so-so in sports, authors, etc.
I do really well in the history, space, science, geography, politics categories (degreed Mech. Engr, former ISS flight controller and space shuttle engineer). Now I work from home in technical sales, for a safety company.

I admitted no such thing. I made a conjecture that was tenuous at best, and I subsequently gained some perspective.
As to your dumbassery? No clue, my friend.

Oh sorry. You admitted you’re wrong. Everyone else thought dumbass
Glad you learned something from your dumbass thread though

It's a question any educated adult should know, much less a teacher. Sorry commentary on our education system.
Probably an unpopular sentiment, but teachers are generally among the dumbest people in our society. Just an observation based on my own experiences.

It's pretty appalling that college educated teachers couldn't name NATO and the Warsaw Pact especially if they grew up during the Cold War. It's more troubling when you consider these teachers are probably more knowledgeable than the typical teacher. I'm pro teacher but let's face it the profession doesn't always attract the most ambitious or intellectually curious candidates.
