Jeopardy Teacher's Tournament - Cold War not that well known anymore

ETA #2:
the original thread title was "Jeopardy Teacher's Tournament - this explains a lot of dumb students"
and I am going to back off of that, as I have been corrected by the O-T to the following line of thinking:
The average mid/late-40s teacher (on Jeopardy or not) would NOT be expected to major details of the Cold War. When I made the OP, I was convinced that the average 42-49 year old teacher should definitely know such details.
I stand corrected.
Final Jeopardy Question just now (category was The Cold War):
"The Cold War became entrenched in the mid-1950s with the establishment of these two rival alliances"
Ok, so JP is thinking... what? Everyone will nail this, right? Why such an easy question? Are they dumbing down the show for teachers? What the???
Ok, so 3rd place lady (maybe mid-40s) has "NATO and USSR".
The dude tied for 1st (mid-30s I guess) answers correctly.
Then the final teacher, lady tied for 1st (maybe late-40s) has "USA and USSR".
Two questions: does ANYONE on here NOT know the correct answer? Without looking it up.. be honest.
2) WTF??? Teachers who make it to Jeopardy don't know this? How fricking dumb are regular teachers?
ETA: I had a word spelled incorrectly, solidifying my status as a dipshit.

OweO is licensed by the State of Louisiana to operate a motor vehicle on State roads.
Think about THAT.

What’s vague? Two alliances. Seems clear as day to me,

Well why are we reading your post instead of watching you on Jeopardy?

Wow, man. Thanks for giving us all of that detail. We're all just as enraged as you are, despite our lack of formatting.

The question as it is in the OP seems to imply that both alliances formed in the mid 50's.

Fine... it is POSSIBLE that I didn't get the wording EXACTLY correct. I didn't DVR the episode.
But it was darned close.

Close would have been wrong. You have to be exact. Do you even watch Jeopardy.
