Facts not in evidence. Plus, again it comes back to what could the kid have done that allows the cop to commit assault and battery and walk away while flipping him the bird?
The cop lost his shite and committed a crime and should be charged with it. The kid should also be charged with anything he did that was illegal, we currently have evidence of the former but not of the latter.

Where does it cover flipping a bird? Let's assume arguendo that it did make flipping the bird disturbing the peace, wouldn't we need to charge the officer as well?
Maybe, that would be up to the elected DA. Or the Sheriff and Supervisors have the right to go through some process of discipline. Or perhaps the Federal Government would like to stick their fingers in it.
In any case, I have never been a cop, and I can only imagine how horrible the job is in the New Orleans area, especially during Mardi Gras, so my sympathies are what they are.

16 pages late to the party but that vid was a good example of guys who if they weren't cops they'd be thugs.

Yeah cause the guy with his phone out recording everything is such a fricking Saint. Give me a break Alton

That's really messed up of those cops.
Their guy did slap his phone out then flipped him off first, so he double birded the guy walking away and then they pull him over.. eh.. they should have let that go.

There is no full story that would excuse what the police did. No matter what "full story" could be given that was the wrong way to handle it by the police. Can you even cook up a possible scenario where their actions were constructive and professional? No, it is not possible. This is pathetic.

Yup.

This happened last week and already off the news cycle.
Yepp shocked it took this long to get here. Probably buried somewhere.
Cop knocked his phone and flipped him off first. Deserves everything he gets imo. I’m also pro police FYI
I just saw this reply. I don’t have enough detail to comment on this way or another. We can speculate all we want but there is more to this story.

So you are OK with people breaking the law because they have a horrible job?
The bottom line is the statute doesn't cover flipping the bird.
Cops that commit crimes have to be held to at least the standard of a citizen. Within the four corners of the video, it is clear the cop committed a crime.

Right.
You don't just knock his phone away to the ground, flip him off and turn your back on him walking away.
If he did something wrong then take his phone away and charge him with something.. but don't sit there and knock shite away, flip him off, and just walk away like some badass.
This is an example of abuse of power.
He's provoking the situation, flipping him off, rather than de-escalating the situation. That's just not very professional of law enforcement. I'm very disappointed in all of their behavior. The other cops at that point should have just let it go, even if he said FU. That's just my opinion though.

If I were a judge or jury, I would take mitigating factors into play.

You Libs and your big government types always wanting to take freedom away. Go live in Singapore, you Ninny.

I don't want big government, I want the citizens of the local governments to rule effectively based on the specific factors that are appropriate for their community. What is necessary in Jefferson Parish may not be necessary in other communities, and the standards of communities should not be dictated by outsiders.

So local authoritarian government. I just can't see accepting assault and battery under the color of authority as ever being appropriate for a community in the US, but everyone has a right to their opinion.

I want balance neither authoritarian government nor the anarchy that pervades the New Orleans area.

Doesn't good governance always include the government and their agents abiding by the same laws as the governed? The government and police getting to pick and choose what laws apply to them is one of the main reasons the 2A exists.

Got what he deserved. Cop aren't supposed to be social workers or take disrespectful actions. Also, what happened before that. You flip off a crowd of cops what do you think you get, tickets to the policeman's ball, hahaha.

No one ITT has even tried to justify the actions of the first cop, or even tried to provide a hypothetical as to what could justify it, despite me asking at least three times. They just keep saying wait for evidence, wait for facts, the kid was a dindu or a shitbird and probably deserved it.

Did you not see the cop who committed an assault and battery on him then flipped him off first. The cop committed a crime, whether the kid did or not is still open.

You prefer making decisions without all the facts? Earlier you said you were a conservative but your emotional rush to judgement sounds like a liberal
