My mom wants the Explorer, which instantly crosses it off my list.

I'm looking at the Jeep and 4Runner, too. Every day I lean a different direction. I don't think either is a bad buy.

They are both good choices, especially now.

For me (same decision), it came down to getting what I wanted within my budget. I bought used. It was a couple years ago but I don't think it's changed much.

It was basically a nice interior JGC V8 with leather, nav and 4wd vs a similar or slightly higher mileage v6 4Runner with bland interior and 2wd.

Ultimately I picked the "now" choice rather than the reliable choice. This is probably a 3-4 year SUV for me, so I opted shorter term. No complaints so far.

Ours is white as well, but looks too plain on the outside IMO. That's why I was looking to see if we could by the silver accent pieces and slap them on. I wish we could've ordered what we wanted.

And I think it was Vetteguy who said buy used. A used 2013 wasn't very much cheaper than a new 2015 when we went.

Typically I'm on the buy used boat, but for these, I don't think there's any savings. I've seen 13/14 Overlands on used lots asking what I could get a new one down to. Since interest rates can be better on new ones, it makes sense.

You made the best choice, IMO.

The Explorer is best in class in that segment, IMO.

SUVs are just modern vans, you're not fooling anyone.

I believe both the NOPD and Jefferson Parish sheriffs drive ford explorers which would scratch that vehicle off my shortlist. I don't want to drive a cop car.

You owe me a white can.

I almost never say to buy used, especially on a demand vehicle.

The savings are just about never worth it. Warranty, financing, etc. are better on a new vehicle.

Plus, new car smell.

If you want to buy a money pit of issues...buy the Jeep. Toyota > Jeep/Chrysler

No one interested in Nissan Pathfinder?
26 miles/gallon is nice.

I like look of Jeep over 4Runner. I had a 2007 4Runner, the look was better back then.

Toyota's dependability, reliability, & resale value are tough to beat, plus, I like the more clean, classic lines of the 4Runner, and it's roomier, which is important to me & why I need an SUV to begin with.

Wrong.

The Nissan Xterra is more of a pure SUV than the Grand Cherokee.

My buddy has the Xterra Pro-4X model and he can go anywhere my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon can go.

Wife has a JGC. We bought it when we found out she was preggers but before we bought a car seat. BIG frickING MISTAKE. The back seat has so much less room than I thought. The front passenger seat is so far forward that I don't have room to sit in it. Now we take my truck if I plan on having a few drinks because I refuse to sit there.
Other than that she loves it

Not completely disagreeing with you, but how is the Xterra more of a pure SUV than the JGC?

Oh and sweet bump.

Didn't realize this was a bump. You are either a terrible driver or a terrible troll.

I have the Grand Cherokee and I can promise you they are made MUCH better than they used to be. They are very nice cars and you will definitely get better options in it than you will on the 4Runner
