I hate to break it to you, but people are going to continue to die whether they open up the state today, tomorrow, May 15th, or December 31. And some of those are STILL going to be from complications related to the coronavirus. Like it or not, there is, and always has been, an acceptable amount of risk one must take as a byproduct of living.

The whole "flatten the curve" mantra that was parroted EVERYWHERE at the outset of this thing was an effort spread out the number of cases requiring hospital treatment so as to prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed at one time...not to "prevent deaths". Well, the hospitals aren't overwhelmed. Mission accomplished.

If the basis for their decisions at this point is so people "don't die" the we aren't getting back to normal anytime soon. At some point these dipshits have to stop worrying about CYA, which is THE DRIVING FORCE behind all of their decisions and start performing a real cost/benefit analysis. Destroying the economy and eliminating large aspects of society that make life enjoyable (attending a concert; ball game; dinner with friends, birthday parties, etc, etc) hurts FAR more people than the relatively few who are dying from virus related issues. And because we "flattened the curve" our helathcare facilities should be better prepared to deal with the issues now, right? Or was that just baseless bullshite when the country, erroneously, though millions were going to die?
