I mean, yeah, but I find all this Japanese work culture reprehensible and actually holds them back from ever truly becoming innovative

Exactly. Doing stuff like this sends a pretty F’d up message. “Doesn’t matter what I’m doing exactly as long as I occupy this seat for 8 hours”. I’m pretty grateful I don’t have a job like that.

I get that 3 minutes sounds so trivial and petty, but why couldn't he just wait 3 minutes and go when he's on his break?

Do you not wish your government help itself to this high of a standard? They must understand they work for the public, not the "government"

i love the japanese. they take pride in their jobs and care about their communities. something in short supply in america.

There are numerous cases of people throwing themselves off buildings or jumping in front of trains in Japan because they've created a joyless, horrific corporate environment.

Suicide not because of mental illness, but because the work environment is so insufferable that people have, probably in a moment of absolute dread, elected to end their life rather than go back to the office.

There is a lot to be admired about their diligence, but it isn't without cost.

Nope, Dwight couldn't stop yawning which cut into his worktime.

A higher standard yes, similar to a private company. But not so crazy as this Japanese example.

Thank God our work culture is as intense and crazy as Japan. But it would be nice if we had anywhere close to the worker protections and benefits as they have in European countries.

Misleading title - he was fined for doing it 26 times. That's 78 minutes he stole from the the company. He should be flogged as an example to the others.
