We took away the Nazis entire country.
I'm not a history buff, but I thought this was partly due go not wanting to fight another war against them in 21 years. The occupation was to prevent further war and to stabalize the country.
On the Japanese is the political angle along with not many people in the world during the 40's cared about China or their people as they were not really part of mainstream American culture.

Take a look at this. I was shocked when I first saw this a couple years ago. I had no idea how many people died in WW2 till I saw this. Just watched it again myself; still mind boggling.
Could you imagine ~70 million people dying in just 6 years?

This.
Before the war they raided villages in China to practice killing people with bayonets.

The Soviet Union was worse than the two combined.

And they only managed to kill like a third of the population. They sure were bad at what they do. You'd think they could have lined them up and shot them all in a few weeks flat.

Stabilize the country? Google the Morgenthau Plan, which was in effect from 1945-1948. Reduce the German population through starvation, remove all industry and convert the country into a pastoral, farming civilization.
The Cold War put an end to that.

The death camps really did not ramp up until 1943 or so. Considering the vast majority of holocaust victims were killed within the last year and a half or so of the war, I find they did a rather efficient job. If you look into the reasons on why they did the things the way they did, you'll see why "lining them up on a wall" was not a good method. The psychological trauma alone on the troops having to do the shooting would have been enormous. Even an SS guy would have burnt out on shooting children and grandmas all day. Not to mention they were fighting a two-front war. Resources were needed elsewhere.
Study up on the Wannsee Conference headed by Reinhard Heydrich. It's sick shite.

also as far as the US goes, you were FAR better off if captured by the Germanas, than if you were captured by the Japanese in WWII.
My grandfather was in the Navy in WWII, my junior year in high school we had a German exchange student they actually got along , my senior year in high school we had a Japanese exchange student, my grandfather never met her, lived right next door to us and never met the girl, he wouldn't allow her in his house and wouldn't come to our house. He was mad at my mom for years for having a Japanese exchange student.

Are Jews better or more important than Chinese people, in the eyes of history?
Check who has written every history book you've ever read. Also the Nazi's having annihilation of jews as a main goal doesn't help their cause. Japanese certainly didn't like chinese people (Nan King and the like), but I don't think a goal was to remove them from existence
ETA: Also Japan pulling a 180 and becoming the America of Asia helped them out

This was how it was done at first. Ammo and the fact that individual soldiers didn't like doing it made it not efficient.

A good neighbor and family friend of ours was also in the Navy in World War II. He hated the Japanese until the day he died, mainly for the way they treated American prisoners of war.

It is frustrating to me how ignorant the average American is to Japanese atrocities. 3/4 of Americans think the worst thing the Japanese did was bomb Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor isn't even a blip on the radar for the horrors the Japanese committed. They raped, murdered, and quite literally cannibalized their way across Asia. During the Rape of Nanking, the Nazi officials were so sickened they started allying with the British and French delegates in trying to save as many of these people as possible. In other words, the Japanese tactics were too fricked up for the Nazis. For the Nazis.
Which makes these people who want to apologize for the nukes all the more baffling given their intense war crimes in the same league as the Nazis. They killed in the same league as the Nazis far more brutally and treated their prisoners far worse. Being a captured American under the Nazis wasn't all that bad. They'd wine and dine you instead of torture you for information. The Japanese, frick no.
I mean really how ridiculous would it be if some SJWs demanded we apologized for bombing Berlin? It gets even more ridiculous when you realize the carpet bombing of Tokyo killed more people than the nuclear bombs.
Honestly I don't think our military went far enough and should have executed every male member of the Japanese Royal family over 18 years of age, and then exiled the women and children to never return to Japan. The fact that Bush Sr went to Hirohoto's funeral to honor him is pretty fricking sick, and he should be called out on it. The man was as bad and violent as Hitler was, and the only purpose for a state visit would be to literally piss on his grave.
The Japanese got more of a pass because of the nukes, but Hirohito should have been put down.
