It is frustrating to me how ignorant the average American is to Japanese atrocities. 3/4 of Americans think the worst thing the Japanese did was bomb Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor isn't even a blip on the radar for the horrors the Japanese committed. They raped, murdered, and quite literally cannibalized their way across Asia. During the Rape of Nanking, the Nazi officials were so sickened they started allying with the British and French delegates in trying to save as many of these people as possible. In other words, the Japanese tactics were too fricked up for the Nazis. For the Nazis.
Which makes these people who want to apologize for the nukes all the more baffling given their intense war crimes in the same league as the Nazis. They killed in the same league as the Nazis far more brutally and treated their prisoners far worse. Being a captured American under the Nazis wasn't all that bad. They'd wine and dine you instead of torture you for information. The Japanese, frick no.
I mean really how ridiculous would it be if some SJWs demanded we apologized for bombing Berlin? It gets even more ridiculous when you realize the carpet bombing of Tokyo killed more people than the nuclear bombs.
Honestly I don't think our military went far enough and should have executed every male member of the Japanese Royal family over 18 years of age, and then exiled the women and children to never return to Japan. The fact that Bush Sr went to Hirohoto's funeral to honor him is pretty fricking sick, and he should be called out on it. The man was as bad and violent as Hitler was, and the only purpose for a state visit would be to literally piss on his grave.

I get what you're saying and somewhat agree, but there is multiple reasons why the Nazis get more attention.
1. We dropped two nukes on Japan so there is a feeling of almost pity for the civilians
2. Hitler was flamboyant about what he did and was proud to display it to the world
3. Germany is in the West and Japan is in the East
4. There were Nazis in the US so they had a face and presence in the States more than Imperial Japan.

So they estimate that between 3 and 14 million civilians died? That's not exactly precise. How are we supposed to take what they say seriously?

That doesn't excuse Hirohito and his people for committing those acts. Hell, it could be argued that the Chinese after the Rape of Nanking started thinking "that's effective, let's do it again." Mao is certainly in the Top 5 monsters of the 20th century, but that doesn't mean I can't also put Hirohito in that despicable delegation with Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot

I’m not excusing anything just answering the OP’s query. I think what he did was despicable, And should be grouped with the others you listed.

Good, we're on the same page. It's a tragedy that the Emperor and his brutal family were largely allowed to get away with their crimes and then get honored by our own President. Simply disgraceful given what he had done.

That’s all fine and dandy. Japan is still more pro- American than Germany. There is a lot of gratitude and a lot of wisdom in their approach to their relationship with the US. We should all be grateful that it worked out that way all things considered.

The only thing I can think of, is possibly that the Holocaust is more shocking to people because of the systematic way in which it was carried out. Also, the fact that it occurred in Europe. The implementation of the Holocaust was official, planned government policy to eliminate certain races of people that resulted in the creation of killing factories. I guess it could be harder for people to fathom such things versus armies plowing through the countryside, mowing people down, which had already been occurring for centuries.

Agree with all that.The systemic nature of it It’s also because it was a crime in The West . We are Of Europe so it shocked us more . Japan/ China were considered inscrutable. We didn’t really Get them.

The thing that was so baffling about the Holocaust was not only the evil, but the fact that it was directly counterproductive. You're fighting the biggest war in human history, and instead of conscripting the Jews and everyone else, your idea is to waste military resources and men to kill your own population. It made no logistical sense except for being pure evil.

I just finished reading Killing the rising sun by Bill O'Reilly. Hirohito, in the end, was having to hide from his generals because he wanted to surrender, and they wanted to continue the war. Tojo was the bastard who started all the bad stuff.
