quote:Teslas have a history and are less of an unknown. They also carry a certain status that other EVs don’t. Even though that shouldn’t matter in car purchases, we all know it does.
There is demand for Teslas, not EVs. Big difference.

I have always thought of this for a hybrid, an all electric drive for a car with a smaller ICE engine producing enough electricity only to keep charging the battery and supply electric power to the electric motors if the battery is completely dead. The ICE motor will shut off when not needed. Battery capacity on a full charge would need to have at least a 100-200 mile range to be effective instead of 30 miles.
Until battery tech improves and charging infrastructure gets built out, hybrids of all forms are the way. My regenerative hybrid gets 45mpg and has a range of about 500 miles on a single tank.

OK, Mr laughing I know ICE engines, explain why you think that anecdote is laughable.

GEM cars are a good solution to a local runabout
It qualifies as a NEV and new, they start at $15K
Used are significantly cheaper, and with a motor upgrade,
it will do 60 MPH

A) Americans don't like things forced on them, they like to make decisions independently of the government telling them what to do. despite our problems, Americans are fiercely independent compared to the rest of the world. They are going to push back on what they deem as politics and frankly Americans love oil, its in our blood and frick anyone trying to take it away without something better.
B) they are expensive as frick
C) they are ugly as frick
d) they are a pain in the arse with the constant charging
e) to charge at home and make things convenient, its a huge chunk of change. stupid money
F) Americans like horsepower and fast cars, at least men do. which the EV can be awesome for.....problem is that is even more expensive than the base model and battery doesn't last at all with the draw from the bigger engines.
H) Americans like big cars. We like our big SUV and trucks, especially in the south. we haul things, we carry things etc. EV doesn't work well for that.

I take it you're the mouth breather here if you believe in EVs.

Biggest problem is charging time. If I could charge my car/truck in 5 mins I'd get one

It’s only an issue on road trips. A ridiculous number of these cars never charge anywhere but home because they’re basically around town cars exclusively.

Anyone who drives an EV is a cuck virtue signaller who drinks bud light. They want EVs because Joe Biden has a switch that he can flip that makes all the EVs autopilot drive people's wives to a BBC household to get piped!

Lithium fields:
Lithium mine:
Lithium minors:
The EV movement isn’t about the environment, it’s about govt limiting / controlling your mobility
Hydrogen is the future for non ICE vehicles, no hurry needed IMO.

I'd get one just for daily commute if the charging infrastructure was better. But it's not.

Do you drive enough every day to need a charging infrastructure? Or can you not charge at home?

I think that sums it up nicely.

And for something that is being pushed to take over the ENTIRE world of car manufacture , that's a pretty big issue.
I'm imagining the endless Summer stream of yankees from Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio lined up at charging stations along I65 to wait an hour for a charge. They might want to pack a tent, too.

You can easily find an EV with 300+ mile range.
But they aren’t cheap. That’s a big problem with their adoption. And the question mark on charge times when you are not in your normal commute and traveling long distance.

How long is your daily commute?
