I'll never be any grocery store's fan-boy, but is there really a call to arms against Rouse's???? I don't think I've ever seen a negative thing besides your post.

It has been commonly noted on here and by people that I know in real life that the LeBlanc's stores that were turned into Rouse's all went to shite after the change, from customer service to selection to quality of meat.

One of the few times I bought meat there was some pork chops that had a good date on it and I used it the same day I bought it and it was rancid.

When they opened in Juban I was really happy because I used to work in Mandeville and loved shopping there when I was at lunch.

Rouses one decent location on the north shore and one bad location. Haven't figured out which of their Baton Rouge area stores are any good, and I'm not driving out to Juban Road to try that one. I'll stick to Calvin's Bocage Market, Calandro's, etc. for now.

I think they are trying to position themselves to be acquired by Publix or Kroger instead of being a Louisiana-centric grocer.

I'm baffled by the people in either Baton Rouge or New Orleans that actually think Rouses is God's gift to the Grocery industry. Louisiana (New Orleans and Baton Rouge in particular) is stacked when it comes to independent and specialty grocers as well as meat and seafood stores. South Louisiana seems to have wide range of local indy grocers that vary greatly in price, size, and quality. We have a lot of options for a relatively low population, low income region.

Maybe Rouses just doesn't stand out in that field or (more likely), they pissed off a lot of Baton Rouge area shoppers when they introduced lower quality meat and produce while simultaneously cancelling the prepared and specialty items offered by LeBlanc's for years.

I have been burned way too many times with meat and fish at the one on Juban. The Texas Star meat is crap. After questioning their "butcher"( who said he did not know how to cut ribeyes bigger than 1" I might add), he said the grade was around the select level. And he was proud of that fact!

We bought some flounder a couple weeks ago that was spoiled to the point of smelling like ammonia 30 minutes after we got home and started trying to cook it.

The smoked brisket is very much hit or miss at the smokehouse counter.

We have tried and tried to like this store since it is very convenient for its location. Now, I buy some German beers, when they are actually in stock, and some wines and that is about it. The rest of our shopping is at Costco.

Not sure how you can say that Freebirds is inferior to Izzo’s, they are the exact same place, but in different locations... i eat at both, both are good— but the fact that Izzo’s copied them yrs later makes me think that I wouldn’t be surprised if they are paying royalties to Freebirds, or maybe they are owned by the same people, dba different names.

Not too many people today are creating new concepts or ideas with regard to starting a new business. Businesses are able to separate themselves based upon the people, products that they offer and their processes.

Products can be very similar in nature but they can also put a spin or do something a little bit different that might be unique to the marketplace. Process will allow a company to perhaps take another company's idea and streamline it even better.

Canes is not the originator of the chicken fingers however they have done a great job and recognize a need in the marketplace and have done it better than the original chicken finger company which is located in Athens Georgia, Guthrie's.

I’m sorry you just don’t know a good store when you see one. I also don’t give a shite that you have been “shopping” for 50 years. You are really coming off like an old bitch.

I hate Rouses. They buy up great stores like LeBlancs (better selection/deli/bakery/prepared foods), and turn them into crap.

Also, that's such a stupid thing to do. Izzo's is not very good to begin with, and stealing recipes makes no sense....it's a damn build-your-own-burrito joint. Not a culinary gem.

Big red flag for the whole store when the guy at the meat or fish counter doesn't know what he's doing.

Rouses’ suppliers in Baton Rouge suck arse.

Rouse's uses Associated Wholesale Grocers as opposed to Associated Grocers. If I'm right, the warehouse is actually in Slidell off I-59, if they are not using that one, then hey are using the distribution center in Southaven, MS. if so, they are getting heir product from a real shitehole.

Same. It's disappointing, too because when they first opened, their meat was great.

Bought a couple of "Prime" ribeyes there a few weeks ago that were crap. I'll stick to Carter's from now on for meat. Never had a bad piece of meat from them and their prices are far more reasonable.

Not to mention, their butcher is a super friendly guy that will cut anything you need.

It's a frivolous lawsuit.

Izzo's is not hurting any and it's not like Rouse's is hurting them either. It will get thrown out.

Pretty soon the pizza market is going to be flooded with startup pizza fire blasted like Lit Pizza and some will make it and some won't.

The one on Vincent in Denham is a ghost town since the Wal-Mart opened. I don't know how they are able to keep the doors open, but I contribute as much as I can just to stick it to Wal-Mart.

That part was already proven in court.

But not necessarily.

Under the new RICO charges, Izzo's explicitly states that Rouses (allegedly) tried to bribe the manager to get the recipe book, which is a pretty bold claim. However, the story you linked said that the managed was fired by Izzo's and then took the book with him and used it at Rouses. Did Rouses violate IP by using Izzo's recipe book? The court thought so.

However, to say that they bribed the manager to get the recipe book is something different (i.e. employee is fired and willingly brings it to his job and Rouses uses it vs the employee is "bribed" or incentivized to steal the book so Rouses could use it). I don't have any time (nor do I care enough) to dig through the previous case for evidence regarding the "bribe". But, if Izzo's is making these claims, I would hope they have evidence to support them.

is suspect based on your opinion. Of course, I generally like most things from Rouses regardless, they even have good sushi.

I mean I look at everything before I buy it, but even the Piggly Wiggly had fresh meat.

I do all my shopping at Zuppardo's. Never a wait and they have what I want. I don't find it expensive. For milk and spices and odd stuff I get asst the local Halal market.
