How much do yall pay for a king cake?

I paid $87 for two Gambino's King Cakes this year. That includes shipping to CA.

Nona randazzo Camilla city bakery is the best.
I find it the best I've had.
I've never been to the bakery, but they sell them at the piggly wiggly in Madisonville.
I would highly recommend.

Is it "just a big cinnamon roll" or something different?

Have you looked at the price of them? Shipping??? Forget it!

Is Rouses garbage compared to Haydels or Gambinos?

Filled or Original?

Just the P/G/G granulated sugar or icing too?

Has anyone found a decent McKenzie's duplicate yet?

Filled king cakes are garbage and need to be outlawed.

If you want a plain king cake just mash a bunch of day old cinnamon rolls together and sprinkle colorful sugar over it. Maybe slide a baby in there to keep it real.

I live nowhere near Louisiana, and saw one in the grocery store bakery for $13.99.
---yeah, for trash. That's like buying a pre-made Muffaletta from Aldi.

Tastees has McKenzies original. And other McKenzies products and are still good.

I don’t care for Rpuses.

Shipping is ridiculous.

I won’t pay more than $25 for one. I buy one or two per season. And done. At the price of $34 I saw on Sunday, I may just bake pillsbury cinnamon rolls and sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the frosting and call it king cake.

Usually traditional from Haydels, I don’t care for their filled as it’s not really filled.

Marguerite’s in Slidell is very good. I’ll drive there for ow.

Caludas/Coffee Cottage is good.

I hear the Sweet Life Bakery in Metairie is good so want to try.

Randazzos isn’t worth the hype or line.

Honorable mention to Oak Point in Denham. Although I’m not sure those are really king cakes. But very good.

D*mn. The “cinnamon” (plain) from Doug Phoung at the grocery was $34. I kept walking. Filled was $38. I miss the days of dropping for king cake most places and it was way under $20. Shopping, goldbelly and too many people have ruined it.

DP sucks (as a king cake) on top of being a royal PITA to get and expensive.

The vast majority of the “traditional” king cakes from famous New Orleans bakeries are fricking gross. Randazzo’s is gross, Gambino’s gross, Caluda’s gross, Haydel’s gross.

But give me Dong Phuong all day.
