It’s the Flu vaccine now…how in the world do words lose their meaning so fast?

Everything we’re getting from our company calls it the flu vaccine (instead of flu shot like it’s always been), and now there are waivers and consent forms.
So now vaccine means…you’re probably still going to get the illness and you may transmit it to others…but you likely won’t die from it.
Vaccine meant something completely different for all of my 48 years. How does this happen?

I simply searched my company’s email to see what they called it pre-2020. It’s alright though, the use of the term vaccine 4 times in the first sentence of the new email triggered me.

Young man I have walked this planet for 93 years. I’ve seen some highs and some lows. One high was scoring a handle behind an oak tree at sacred heart. A low was when they started given us the flu vaccine in the army. Did you read that vaccine. It’s always been a vaccine and after you were vaccinated. Shot is what you did to the krauts and japs. Learn your history.

They had the flu shot people come to the office a couple of weeks ago. One guy was going to get it and asked me if I was. Nope. Never have, never will. Same dude left work later that day due to the flu shot making him sick.
