Look at the trash all over the street. Looks like mardi gras. What do black people have against garbage cans?

It is not as safe as you think

After living in New Orleans for 10 years I'm here now. Austin is safe. A city of 1 million in the city limits with less than 40 murders a year. I never was a victim of crime in New Orleans (though my brother was mugged), and being a victim of crime just about anywhere takes some bad luck. New Orleans isn't Mogadishu but it isn't Pleasantville either, and after living in both places there is a real difference in how you feel and carry yourself there as opposed to here.

Bad schools and bad crime relative to safer metros. I'm sure we can all agree on needing improvement.

No, Nola is so safe. Just ignore the stats and listen to the Nola citizens.

Bayou Classic needs to be removed from New Orleans and played in Atlanta or Houston. It is unfortunately besieged with problems every year on Bourbon Street.

We've been through this 1000 times on this board.
Nola has a crime problem. A bad one. We know it and acknowledge this.

With that said, Nola is not unsafe for tourist and normal functional members of society who live here. There are issues and things that need to be cleaned up, but the good far outweighs the bad.

Was talking about this with the lady who cuts my hair. Her and here sister both moved down here from Seattle and now their dad is about to move here too. A lot of people from all over the country have been moving here over the last 10 years because Nola is a cool arse place to live.

And with close to 10 million visitors coming per year now, I guess it's a cool place to visit too.

I wish this game could be moved from Thanksgiving weekend at least. It's too good of a tourist weekend to have this game on.

Having it on a Holiday weekend allows businesses in the area to shut down "for the holiday."

This is hard for me to answer. I'm the guy who likes vacationing in Eastern Europe instead of Paris, so I like places with a little "messed up" in them.

From a pure Quality of Life metric its not really that close outside of the "old vibe" of New Orleans and personalities of the regular folk who live there. Here I can send future kids to public schools, there are well paying jobs all over the place, low crime, and outdoor activities.

Again laugh if you want but it's the truth. I have not been a victim and do not personally know anybody who has been a victim of crime in NOLA.

I am however friends with a family that has had a loved one murderd in St. Tammany parish.

I doubt the shooter had anything to do with Southern or Grambling. The problem with BC is all of the local thugs come out at night and hang in the FQ trying to showoff their ride and bang hoes. Combine that with BR thugs coming in town and you've got a recipe for disaster. Same thing is starting to happen during Essence now.

This. The problem isn't the game or fans themselves, it's the local trash it attracts.

I lived in NOLA for a number of years, and the difference in how you carry yourself didn't really hit me until I spent time in Vienna. The ability to relax on the streets there was insane compared to NOLA.

With that said I was never a victim of crime in NOLA and would move back if it made sense for my wife and I.

Overall you can easily be safe in NOLA if you take some minimum precautions.
