In general the people who attend the Bayou Classic are good tourists and a positive boost to the city. Too bad some trash decided to settle some stupid personal dispute while the city was hosting this historic event as well as the annual holiday shopping fest going on.

Positive energy sent via meditation for all involved.

They also seem to think every city requires comprehensive knowledge of what streets are safe at specific times (they don't)

Vancouver BC has signs up informing tourists or anyone walking by which streets are known to have drugs being openly used and sold. Vancouver is one of the nicest and safest cities I've ever visited. NOLA could do the same

Uptown, FQ, warehouse, Holly Grove, mid-city, treme', marigny, by water, 9th ward. Is that enough for starters?

Crime can happen anywhere .. It's funny but I know people whose homes have been bugularized in st Charles parish, people whose cars have been stolen in Jefferson parish, families who have had love ones murderd on the north shore but according to many NOLA is a third world country unlike any other place around

statistics disagree with you though - I personally was "mugged" (had a gun pointed at me but wasn't hit or anything) during mardi gras one year before I moved here. That experience doesn't make it a third world country but the violent crime statistics are pretty definitive proof.
