Yeah, but public companies will always have pretty tight tiers for pay. I think you really see discrepancies at private companies.

Not sure if this was meant for me but I was the one replied to. I never said the same jobs paid different.

You are absolutely wrong here. On a how things work podcast a few years back, they broke down all the numbers. 80% is the average of all male salaries vs all female salaries. It was 4 or 5% when accounting for experience and position. Additionally, I believe it was nursing in which men were paid less.

Read the rest of the thread.

Admitted I was thinking of something else, but there are still stats out there that say adjusted pay gap is near 20 cents on the dollar.

That is likely far too high, but there are no "sources of truth" for this shite because salaries are usually not public and everyone uses tiny sample sizes.

I also blame women entirely for pay gaps.

Female teachers get paid less..WTH

I also would like equal pay on my child support, or do females just deserve more?

So 80% is in the range for adjusted as well.

The really stupid thing is how could the government regulate this? Say Bill and Susie are both electrical engineers with 10 years of experience. Bill is the best engineer in the firm, Susie is an average performer. Should they make the same? I don't think so.

Talk about crushing moral at a business. Job performance would no longer matter. People would do just enough to not get fired.

They can't, at least effectively.

Its a big reason companies do not publicly discuss salaries. At least at my company that is one major reason why.

Its actually really odd to me that people don't discuss comp. out loud in my work place. I've tried with people so I can get an idea of what kind of raise I can realistically ask for and they look at me like I said some offensive slur

I think you are wrong on this. I think it's overall income. When adjusted for title, the gap disappears mostly. And in some fields, women make more.

Equal pay isn’t equal when you show preference toward men or toward women simply because of their gender. And not all people are equal, and so do not deserve equal pay, even if they attribute it to be due to their gender rather than their skill set or work ethic.

Me too. My wife makes a lot less than me. She also works far fewer hours in a less stressful job.

my wife has been at home the last 12 years raising our kids. i never asked her to stay home and i never asked her to go to work. it was entirely up to her (we would have talked about it, but i support her.) She'll be reentering the work force next year as our last kid is going to school.

She graduated in 3.5 years with a 3.8. I graduated in 6 years with a 3.3ish. She's insanely smarter than i am, but facts is facts and there's not a job she can get that is half of my salary.

Everybody's story is not the exact same, but even though she and i have equal qualifications on paper (hers better than mine to be honest,) more women have taken time off for maternity or had some gaps in their work history that slow down their wage earning. If we were both in education and I had kept teaching all 12 years and she had taken a few years off to raise the kids, she'd be coming in at 20% less than me inherently. Again, not the same for every female in the world, but these BS statistics don't account for that.

If they wouldn't have entered into the workplace this wouldn't be a problem for them.

I think I'll give myself a raise to widen the gap a bit.

So seriously.

A buddy of mine is a doctor. He has a nurse practitioner that he admittedly leans on heavily. Before children she worked a 5 day schedule. After the first child she cut back to 4 days a week and he cut her pay from $100k to $80k a year and her bonus from $20k to $12k. Now's she has had a second child and works 3 days a week.

She nows wants a raise and wants her full bonus again. I told him to tell her to pound sand.

At least she has the nuts to ask for it. Most women don't.

And your friend should say no.

LOL. No. Just no. You're not just wrong. You're incredibly wrong. This has been debunked over and over again.

It is already illegal to pay men and women differently for the same exact job. It's been illegal since 1963.

Equal Pay Act of 1963

Do you honestly believe that any companies paying women 80% of what they pay men for the same job wouldn't be being constantly sued into oblivion? We'd be reading about these lawsuits every single day.
