re: It's BS how people can't just buy a new car from the manufacturer.

I’ve never bought a new car. Buy used and you don’t have to worry about the 18 year old salesman that thinks he’s smarter than you.

Has anyone ever stopped to consider that perhaps the manufacturers DON’T want to sell direct?
A vehicle is totally different than a blender. There are issues that all can change depending on the local market- manufacturers have enough to worry about- ever changing market dynamics, making a quality product, Wall Street, etc. In addition, the margin tacked on at the dealership level is so low when compared to what the mfg. gets, it’s not worth their while.

It would be great to just go to the Ford website, find the F250 you want, select your color, add your options and truck nutz, and click add to cart

The best thing we can hope for as consumers is to find a good dealership that fricks you less than most others. There are a couple in town that it really blows my mind how people continue to use them.

??
The profit areas for car dealerships comes from USED Sales, Parts, Service & Finance. So, the MORE new vehicles they give away, the more trades they get, more cars they finance & more cars they service, it’s that simple.

Take a look at how the three tier beer distributing works. Its shameful. I blame the baptists.
I dislike Baptists as much as the next guy, but they are not to blame here. Blame the distributors (wholesalers) and the legislators they have purchased for decades.
It's the biggest protectionist racket and anti-consumer law on the books, and pols in both parties won't budge to change it. Why? Follow the money.

If we were truly capitalist, you'd give people the opportunity to fly to Detroit or wherever else the manufacturer is, buy the car from the factory without the BS stealership haggling and addons and let them drive it back home.
Well... then you will have people going up there and buying 10, 20, 100+ cars and then selling them wherever they live. Sounds great until you have a recall or warranty issue.

There are tons of manufacturers that do not want to sell to end users (and do not). Not just car companies.

Ford and GM do not want millions of people flying to Detroit and having to deal with them.

And what if you wanted a car not made in the USA?
I think Porsche and Volvo let you pick up at the factory in Europe then they ship it to you. Still probably dealing with the dealership here though.

Didn’t Tesla try this and most states wouldn’t allow it?

I bought a Volvo and BMW straight from the factory through a military program while I was overseas. It worked great, but the dealerships were dicks when I went to pick them up or get service. They were not fans of the program. But.... frick them. I saved a ton.
