Yes and it needs to be an elected position. You think the FDA and USDA do a good job? You don’t think there’s a concern of incorrect regulation, corruption, or sever inefficiencies?

I do think there’s a concern. I don’t think your proposal is effective or rational as a solution.

All I need to do is point at state PSCs as an example of an “elected position” fricking their constituents because they got bought off by power companies.

The fact of the matter is corruption is a part of any regulatory function. You are far better served arguing for increased transparency into FDA decisions and decision-makers than arguing for 50 separate FDAs.

If a company is big enough and can afford it, they will get whatever they want “passed” by the FDA. There is no true “oversight”. If they did their job and things were equal for everyone across the board, that would be great for all involved. But it’s not, winners and losers are chosen. Not my idea of a regulatory agency. I’m sure the same can be said about many, if not all, government agencies.

People are fat because they shove too much food down their throat then want to blame it on everything else.

The seed oils and HFCS are the problems

Most of the other ingredients aren’t harmful

Agreed, so drastically reduce them

That because you’re only seeing a snapshot. We are paying 30+% of our income to the feds. The country isn’t meant for that. Much higher % should be going to the state where locals are making the decisions. Bloated federal bureaucracy in DC corruptly telling me what I can and can’t eat is not a good idea. And, we have no real way to get them out or make our voices heard if we can’t vote them in or out.

Good chance the ones calling for the government to save us from ourselves all have 40+ BMIs. “Give us our Oreos without these ingredients we can’t read!”

Correct, and even more so, it gives smooth brains a false sense of security that if the FDA approves it, it must be fine for me, instead of forcing them to do their own research.

I met a bunch of people with AgriGold last weekend while in Westfield, Indiana for the Pearl Jam concert at the Ruoff Amp. They were having a conference and staying at the same Marriott where we were staying. There was about 100 of them at the lobby bar when we came back in from the show and most pretty far in to the booz. Struck up some conversations and those guys all swore GMO and the chemicals their company produced were very safe and all this negative stuff the public reads is BS. Said that yes it’s bad if you just ingest it but when applied to crops it just dissipates into the soil and the microbes feast on it like a buffet. So it’s safe. I just listened to their script and laughed in my head.

It’s not a secret or conspiracy that the government helped fund the push to normalize sugars and refined carbs and to demonize animal based products. This is when health of this country started going off the rails

No wonder we're a nation of fat people.

Our food has contributed, but the reason we are fat is because of weakness and mindset. We have an epidemic of weak parents creating weak as frick children. No one is held accountable. No one is disciplined. No one knows how to delay gratification.

Americans are spoiled and lazy. That’s why there are so many fat Americans.

Right. I would add seed oils in there too. They’re ubiquitous now.

While I agree there needs to be some self accountability, do you know what happened to all the BigTabacco scientists after the government killed that industry? The move to BigAgra to make chemically modified foods to be as highly addictive as cigarettes.

frick these people.

Quit buying garbage if at all possible. I scan items with the Bobby Parrish app and it tells you what it has that’s not good for you. Do what you can, when you can. As consumers we have to demand better from the manufacturers and the FDA that allows this.

Trader Joes has a lot of items with limited natural ingredients. Whole Foods too probably.

I stopped eating all this bullshite nastiness in the last few years. Wish I would've stopped sooner.

I do it myself, but it would be cool in 24 if the stores had an app where you enter the ingredients you want to avoid and it shows you what you can buy.

No matter how long I leave sumin the in fridge bar a few exceptions, I've ate some very old food. I've also eaten tons of stuff after leaving it on the counter. It will have cheese and dairy. Doesn't matter. NEVER had food poisoning. When I married my wife she thought I was crazy and I was like baby, this stuff is packed w toxic chemicals to preserve it.

That may be true but people still need to take accountability for their own actions. If the food is more addictive and you’re eating more then get off your butt and move more. While I agree with what you’re saying they have done to our food is bs. Take responsibility for your own actions stop blaming everyone else. The world isn’t fair.
