The Lombardy region has recorded 1,218 of the deaths officially attributed to COVID-19 over the past three weeks — more than the rest of Europe combined

While the total number of deaths in Italy weren't reported, it's safe to say that 400 deaths/day from a new disease is pretty staggering.

See the link in my post, numbers are straight from CDC. I don't know where else to get actual "how many people die per day" and if you do, please post the link.

Remember the good ole days, when the mafia drove the semi terminated garments to Albania, and had them tagged with Made in Italy? I do.

Bastards.

Thank you, Merkel.

They've been under lockdown for a week. People are infectious for ~14 days. Cases should begin to level off within a week, if I have this figured correctly.

There's 60 million people in Italy. How many normally die there everyday?

And just yesterday it was revealed that over 80s could be denied intensive care treatment, effectively leaving them to die.

But a 25% bump in the daily death rate isn’t anything. Jesus.

Not directed at you.

I've read Italy has opened up their country to China. Probably lots of people going back and forth.

I don’t think you can use typical annual stats and apply them to this situation. As someone posted there are too many variables.

It's just to get an idea of the scale of the problem. You can absolutely use typical death rates and apply them in this way.

Hell, I think that's basically how flu deaths are estimated every year. They count "excess" deaths over a baseline.
