I married an Italian lady and her dad was a Sicilian and her mom was a fair skinned, blue eyed northern Italian. Yep, pasta every Sunday and huge Holiday gatherings back in the day.

My great grandmother died. Great grandpa then went to train station in Independence or Tickfaw and picked up a new wife. They probably had 10 kids. All of the men served our country during ww2. All I can remember from my early youth was the smell of garlic at the family reunions.

Growing up we cooked a ton. If we didn't cook that night, we'd go to Monjuni's, Geno's or Mohawk. My stepmom is also Sicilian and her family owned a bakery for years. Holidays were so much fun. That's it in a nutshell

After my grandmother died my grandfather married a widow of Sicilian descent. I have her recipe for meatballs but I've seldom made it because it takes forever to chop the ingredients. Those were some righteous meatballs, though.

Did you grow up in a large family that was close knit, as a lot of Italian families seem to be?

What is this magical Italian family you are talking about? most of my extended family have groups they refuse to talk to due to weird absurd grudges they cling on to forever stubbornly.

You ever seen that soap opera about Italian merchants? It's called As the Dagos Buy

I’d like to know what your experience was like growing up in an Italian family?

Great Grandfather came from Cefalù, Sicily

Sunday pasta is still one of the many traditions we practice to this day.

That’s where my Italian ancestors are from as well. So it’s possible we could be related.

It is the South, it is more probable than possible.

Growing up , every Sunday was spaghetti and meatballs at our grandparents home:
Aunts , uncles and cousins .
Usually would start around noon and go til about 9.
Still very close with all of the family.
